The Village of Northbrook recently moved to restructure its commissions dealing with economic development. Trustees amended the Municipal Code, creating a new Economic Strategy Commission (ESC) and eliminating the Industrial & Commercial Development Commission. The Economic Development Committee, an ad hoc committee created in 1994 with residents, businesspeople, and representatives of local governmental bodies, has also been disbanded. Read More

Along with the new Economic Strategy Commission (see related article), Village trustees soon will have input from The Retail Coach, LLC, a national retail consulting, market research, and development firm. Through data analysis of geographic consumer patterns, available retail vacancies, and other factors, The Retail Coach develops a list of “best fit” retailers for a community. Read More

As hospitalizations from COVID continue to fall, Illinois is expected to end its five-month mask mandate for most public spaces on February 28. Cook County’s Department of Public Health has stated that it will repeal its own mask and vaccine-screening requirements at the same time, assuming that metrics continue to improve. The Chamber plans to move to a mask-optional format for its upcoming events. Read More
