A Holiday Message from your
Northeast Region Vice President
Greetings to all in the Northeast. I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season. I hope that all of our members enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving and for those of us who had to work that day, just think about all the people we made happy with our delicious food.

The holidays are approaching and it is time to think back over the year and be thankful. Let’s not forget our troops overseas and keep them all in our prayers, especially during this season when they are so far away from home.

By the time this letter is out, we will have already seen the results of the New York State Student Team cook-off and be getting ready to watch the Ohio State Cook-off on Dec. 16. Year after year, it is these two groups that vie to be the champs in the Northeast. I will be at both of these competitions rooting for all the students to strive for the gold.

I have been trying to keep in contact with as many chapters as possible and hope to spend more time visiting the region after the holidays. On the competition scene, The Big Apple Chapter hosted their first competition under newly elected president Robert Walljasper, CEC, CCE, on Oct. 21 at New York City Technical College. We also have several competitions in the region this month. Recently, The ACF Long Island Chapter and The New York Culinary Institute in New Rochelle hosted the New York State Student Competition on Dec. 2, which was won by Culinary Institute of New York at Monroe College and on Dec. 9 they hosted the Greater New York Culinary Challenge.

Moving next door to Ohio, the ACF Columbus Chapter hosted the Ohio State Student Competition on Dec. 16 at the Columbus Culinary Institute, with the Columbus Culinary Institute winning over Cincinnati State and Hocking College. All the scores were very close. The Akron-Canton Cooks and Chefs Association will have their competition on Jan. 20-21 at Lorain County Community College.

The West Virginia State student competition hosted by West Virginia Northern Community College was won by the Pierpont Technical Community College team who will be moving on to the Buffalo regional competition in January.

In our region is the ACF Glens Falls Chapter holding their competition Jan. 10-12 at Skidmore College.

The events team is doing a fantastic job coordinating all the segments for ChefConnect: Charlotte, Feb. 25-27, in Charlotte, North Carolina , and we have some nice attendance numbers already accumulating. I am looking forward to seeing you in Charlotte in February. It looks like our days will be jam-packed with education and great speakers.

I want to thank all of you for the efforts made in the Northeast as far as chapter compliance is concerned. We are 100% compliant with all the tasks the national office has asked of us. Starting this month, we will have a region-wide conference call the second Wednesday of each month at 8:30 p.m. The national office will send out an announcement for these calls with all the call-in information. This will be an opportunity for members to field questions and keep everyone in the loop about their respective chapters’ activities. I look forward to hearing from you all.

Secretary Kyle Richardson is pleased to announce the launch of the Secretary’s Portal, which is an initiative we’ve undertaken to help keep the membership informed of board and committee activity, new benefits and information on committee nominations and elections. This site will allow all members access to view meeting minutes, financial snapshots and the newest announcements concerning the ACF.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and the most happiness in all your holidays. I hope to hear from many of you soon.

Have a most excellent and healthy New Year

Respectfully,
Christopher J. Neary, CEC, CCA, AAC
