Our Grant Recipients

In November, Region 2 Arts Council funded the following art programs:

Arts & Cultural Heritage Grants for Schools

Bemidji Middle School received $2,800 to fund William Durbin, acclaimed Minnesota author, to teach 325 students in sixth grade at Bemidji Middle School short story elements in historical creative writing. Beltrami County.

Lake of the Woods High School was awarded $3,000 to take students on a field trip to the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis to view a production of Wicked, have a tour of the Orpheum, and to visit the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Lake of the Woods County.

Red Lake Middle School received $3,000 to bring two Native American artists to the school to do a residency which will teach self-expression of inner-voice to students through the creation of spoken word and music pieces. Beltrami County.

Arts Project Grants

Bagley Area Arts Collaborative received $1,829 to host a three-day plein air painting workshop with Arna Rennan in August 2017. Clearwater County.

Bemidji Symphony Orchestra was awarded $2,500 to present the concert "Cinematic Legends," a family-friendly concert featuring well-known film scores from Hollywood movies. Beltrami County.

Farm By The Lake received $2,420 to host six storytellers in January, February, and March. This project will culminate with a workshop class to instruct participants to write their own stories. Clearwater County.

Nemeth Art Center was awarded $2,500 to host an exhibit by artists David & Mathieu Ruhlman. Hubbard County.

Nemeth Art Center received $2,500 to host exhibits by artists David Linder, Adam McCauley, Gail Katz-James and Lowell Wolff. Hubbard County.

Pequana Playhouse was awarded $1,640 to provide a variety show for community members to enjoy, and in which to participate. Lake of the Woods County.

Watermark Gallery News
 
 
Watermark Art Center has hired Mahnomen resident Karen Goulet as Program Director of the art center's Native American Gallery.
 

Beginning now until their renovation  project is complete, visitors can find the Watermark art center at 516 Beltrami Ave, next  to The Tea & Gift Shoppe, in the True North Healthcare building. Go to their website for more info.


Call for Artists

The Minnesota State Arts Board, on behalf of the City of Duluth, requests proposals from professional public artists or artist-led teams for permanent, site-specific public artwork at  Wade Municipal Stadium in Duluth, Minnesota.

The application deadline is Monday,  December 12, 2016
