Fall Arts Access Grant
Applications Are Online

Maximum Award: $6,000
Deadline: August 15, 2018

Arts Access Grants can support creation, production, and presentation of high-quality arts activities, as well as projects that help overcome barriers to accessing high-quality arts activities, and projects that help instill the arts into the community and public life in our region. Arts activities proposed for funding must be accessible by the public and have a strong community component. Non-profits, arts organizations, schools, community education programs, institutions of higher learning, local city, town, county government or tribal offices, or groups formed for nonprofit purposes with a fiscal sponsor can apply for grants up to $6,000 to fund arts projects that will benefit the residents of Beltrami, Hubbard, Clearwater, Lake of the Woods, or Mahnomen Counties.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota, through a grant from the Region 2 Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
Region 2 Arts Council Logo
We Need One More Board Member

Region 2 Arts Council seeks arts appreciators and artists from Mahnomen county to join our Board of Directors. Board terms last two years and will begin in July. Eligible applicants must be 18 years or older, have a strong interest in the arts, and have the desire to be an ambassador for Region 2 Arts Council.

This is a great opportunity to understand the workings of the arts granting process, to be more involved with the arts and artists of our region, and to enjoy camaraderie with others who appreciate the arts.

Excerpt from a recent letter to the editor by Nancy Cole, former LOW board member:

I was a representative for four years. I learned a lot about areas of art that I was not as familiar with, also sharing what I know with others. I met interesting people and interesting ideas. Taking my turn evaluating granted arts projects led me to events I might have otherwise passed by, sometimes enriching my life in surprising ways.
Region 2 Arts Council covers round trip mileage at the current IRS rate for attending board activities. Time commitment involves board meetings, committee work, and 5-8 hours per month reviewing grant applications, along with attending selected funded arts events. Summers are relatively free of board obligations.

Program Assistant Alice Blessing is leaving our team

At the end of June, Alice Blessing completed her two-year tenure with Region 2 Arts Council.  She has been our newsletter editor, arts expo and professional development coordinator, promotions specialist, and a colleague to rely on to shape ideas and make them happen. In short, Alice has been an all-around amazing colleague and we are grateful for what we've learned and gained in the time she spent with us.  As an accomplished artist, Alice infused Region 2 Arts Council with design elements that are artistic, direct, and inspiring. We've gained some style since Alice joined us & we happen to believe everyone's noticed.
As executive director, I speak for the entire Board of Directors, our staff team, and members of the Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Council as I wish you the best in your endeavors and thank you for all you've done to support artists and the arts in our Region. -Laura

Thank you, Alice!
