Grant Writing
Session

Region 2 Arts Council will be offering a grant writing info session on October 12 from 6-7:30 pm at Gizhiigin Arts on Main Street in Mahnomen for traditional and contemporary Native American artists interested in submitting an application for the Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grant. Grants are up to $1,000 to support artists in costs associated with their creative works and every AAI grant recipient will show their work in the Spring Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Art Exhibit at the Region 2 Arts Council office in Bemidji. 2017 Levitt AMP [Your City] Grant
 
The Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation announces an exciting grant opportunity serving small to midsized towns across the country. Up to 15 grantees will be awarded $25,000 each in matching funds to produce their own Levitt AMP Music Series. Grant applications are due by October 10, 2016. For more information, click  here.

At the Hallberg Center for the Arts in Wyoming, Minnesota, this exhibit will accept 2D, 3D, Literary, and Musical works of art. Performed works must relate to the theme Black & White.

    • Open to non-profits, schools, government or tribal offices, community education programs, or arts-focused groups with a fiscal sponsor. Maximum award: $2,500.       
  • Arts and Cultural Heritage Grants for Schools -  Deadline  October 15, 2016
    • These grants offer funding for a variety of arts projects and can cover costs associated with public art, exhibitions, or performances. Maximum award: $3,000. No cash match required!                                                
  • Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grants - Deadline November 2, 2016
    • Open to Native American artists in all arts disciplines residing in Region 2 and the surrounding counties.

  • Watermark announces their largest gallery will be named after Marley and Sandy Kaul. Marley Kaul is a professor emeriti, and Sandy Kaul is a fiber artist who helped found the Watermark Art Center.
  • Watermark received funding for program development relating to its future Native American gallery and efforts to foster long-term engagement with regional Native American artists. Watermark is the recipient of an Art Access grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board in the amount of $47,951.

  Arts & Cultural Heritage Grant Recipients
 
Paula Swenson was awarded $3,000 to paint a mural called "Landscape of Sound" for the front of Bemidji's KBXE building. She will be painting the mural at her studio during the Studio Cruise (see above for info).

Bemidji Symphony Orchestra was awarded $6,000 to produce their concert, "Celtic Legends," on Apr 2, 2017.

Watermark Art Center was awarded $4,000 to  host the 4th Annual Creative Spirit Fiber Festival, February 24-25, 2017.

Nevis School was awarded $6,000 to host Copper Street Brass Residency and performance from Feb 28-Mar 1, 2017.

Northern Light Opera Company was awarded $6,000 to produce the musical, "South Pacific," from July 28- Aug 5, 2016.

BSU's English Department received $6,000 to host the  2017 Minnesota Northwoods Writers Conference from June 19-25, 2016.

Bagley Area Arts Collaborative was awarded $6,000 to  host a series of musical/storytelling presentations and educational concerts.

Bemidji Community Theatre was awarded $6,000 to produce the musical Mary Poppins from Nov 11-20, 2016.

The city of Mahnomen received $6,000 to partner with Gizhiigin to create and install murals on each of the boarded up windows of Pembina Theater building on Main Street.

Headwaters School of Music and the Arts was awarded $2,915 to host Ragamala Dance Company's Sacred Earth performance and residency program on April 17-19, 2017.

The Nemeth Art Center was awarded $5,916 to display its entire permanent collection from May 4-July 15, 2017 to celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2017. 

Lake of the Woods Art Guild received $1,918 to offset student tuition for a traditional oil painting seminar by Jim Robinson.

Paul Bunyan Playhouse received $6,000 to produce "Legally Blonde," from Aug 2-12, 2017.
