The Great American Story
Inaugural Event
The Park Rapids Lakes Area Arts Council is sponsoring The Great American Story as part of Art Leap weekend. Four finalists will tell their winning stories as part of the program from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24. They are Anne Dunn, Leigh Harper, Steve Maanum, and Amy Salloway.
This activity is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Region 2 Arts Council funded by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State's general fund.

Bedroom Farce
will be showing at the Chief Theatre Sept 9, 10, 16, 17 at 7:30pm, and Sept 11, 18 at 2 pm. Directed by Derrick Houle, tickets are $6 for children, $12 for adults. Click here for more info.

"Book Marks", an exhibition of paintings by Natalia Himmirska, associate professor in Bemidji State University's TAD School. This show will reveal a glimpse into her creative process. Through September in Bemidji State University's Talley Gallery, open Mon-Fri 9-4 pm. Click here for more info.

Artist Reception
An open house for fiber artist Kristin Majkrzak and a 10th anniversary celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Blackduck History and Art Center. Majkrzak's tapestries will be on display in the center's Tin Pan gALLErY for the month of September. Click for more.





Did You Know?
Springboard for the Arts has a new location in the Historic Benson Building at 201 Lincoln Ave in downtown Fergus Falls - right next to the Viking Cafe. They also have some great jobs open.

Holidays By Hand 2016, the 6th Annual Fine Arts and Craft Festival held at the Boys & Girls Club of the Bemidji area, is looking for artisans to sell their wares. Event is December 3, 2016, 9 am-3 pm. Apply by November 18. Email  [email protected]  for an application.

Bemidji Symphony Orchestra
Featuring guest pianist Gareth Cordery

You won't want to miss being dazzled by 18-year-old piano virtuoso Gareth Cordery's performance
 of 
Tchaikovsky's beautiful and well-loved Piano Concerto No. 1. Also on the program are Gustav Holst's "Jupiter" from The Planets, and Mozart's Jupiter Symphony. Dr. Beverly Everett conducts.

Art Leap

An "open studio event" featuring artists' studios and culturally rich destinations in the Park Rapids area. Art Leap dates are Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25. Studios will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Enjoy live demonstrations and other art activities at some locations. Brochures with maps may be downloaded at www.prlaac.org

Art Leap 2016 is sponsored by PRLAAC with funding provided, in part, by a Region 2 Arts Council Grant through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature and the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund passed by Minnesota voters on Nov. 4, 2008.

Cultural Community Partnership Grants
 
From the Minnesota State Arts Board, this program is designed to enhance the artistic and career development of artists of color. It supports collaborative projects between two individual artists, or between an artist and an organization.

The deadline is 4:30 p.m., September 16, 2016.
