A Frequently Asked Question - and the answer!
Where is the money?

The Child Development Division (CDD) provides LOTS of funds to support early childhood and afterschool professionals and programs.  Staff at Northern Lights, STARS office, and the Child Development Division get lots of questions from you asking - where is the money?  Here are the answers to the most frequent questions - tell your friends!
  • The last page of the Application and the last page of the letter that comes with your certificate, explain about the CDD bonus requirements and process. Check it out!
  • When Northern Lights issues your Career Ladder or Afterschool certificate we enter that into your BFIS credential account.  This triggers the BFIS system to automatically show "No" Bonus.  Then, the Child Development Division reviews and decides if you are eligible for the bonus - and if so, they will change your BFIS account to "Yes".
  • It takes 6 -8 weeks after you are issued your certificate, for the Child Development Division to issue the recognition bonus, if you are eligible. Check your BFIS Credential account to see your status.

Get Observed!
One step toward earning a Level I, II or III-A

Being observed while working with children is a requirement to earn a Level I, II or III-A early childhood career ladder certificate.  Look on the Early Childhood Career Ladder page to learn all about it.

Here is what one person said after she was observed the first time:
"I was nervous about being observed but kept telling myself to just focus on the children. After the observation started I wasn't as nervous.  I didn't know what to expect when I talked to my observer afterwards... but after that I started to work on asking more open-ended questions."

Help!  I need to earn my teaching license!
