Dear Families,
October has been full of momentum at Northley. Our students are learning, performing, competing, and leading in ways that make us proud every day. From community events to classroom celebrations, there’s a lot happening across the building. Here’s what families should know as we continue an exciting fall season together.
Special Guest Performance
Northley had the honor of welcoming home one of our own—Rhyuhn Green, a Northley graduate and current Kovner Fellow at The Juilliard School. Each grade gathered in the auditorium to hear Rhyuhn perform and share his story about perseverance, creativity, and chasing your passion.
The event, covered by 6ABC, was both inspiring and emotional. It reminded every student in the room that their dreams are possible and that greatness often begins right here at Northley.
Action News Report
Student of the Month
We’re proud to recognize our September Students of the Month for demonstrating the first Leader in Me character trait: Be Proactive. These students take responsibility, make good choices, and do what’s right without being told. Their actions set a strong example for their peers and show what true leadership looks like at Northley.
Congratulations to our September honorees:
Molly M., Maddux W., Savannah R., Aubrey B., Annika D., Madison H., Josiah J., Abigail A., and Rylie P.
We’re proud of the positive energy and leadership these students bring to our school each day. Their efforts remind us that leadership begins with doing the right thing—even when no one is watching.
Kick Cancer Classic
The Northley Soccer and Cheerleading teams invite everyone to the second annual Kick Cancer Classic on October 27 at Sun Valley Stadium.
Games vs. Ridley Middle School:
- 7th Grade Boys – 5:00 PM
- 7/8th Grade Girls – 6:00 PM
- 8th Grade Boys – 7:00 PM
This event is more than just a night of great soccer, it’s about purpose. Our goal is to raise over $3,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, supporting pediatric cancer research. Enjoy food vendors, grab a cup of lemonade from our cheerleaders, and show your Penn-Delco pride as we come together for an incredible cause.
Flu Clinic
We’re excited to share that the Springfield Pharmacy flu shot team will be returning to Northley on Monday, October 28 to provide flu shots for both students and staff. Staying healthy keeps our classrooms strong and our students in school where they belong, learning and growing.
Please complete the required online form in advance: Flu Clinic Form

These fall traditions are what make our school community so special. A huge thank-you to our PTL for organizing these events and creating lasting memories for our students.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Conferences are right around the corner and will be held on November 24 and 25, with evening conferences on November 25. This is one of the most important times of the year for families, students, and teachers to come together to talk about learning and growth.
What makes Northley unique is our student-led conference model. During these sessions, students take the lead, explaining their academic progress, sharing their goals, and reflecting on their performance. It’s powerful to see students step into the role of communicator and self-advocate.
Teachers will also reach out to schedule traditional conferences where needed. Whether it’s student-led or teacher-led, these conversations are all about partnership, ensuring every child gets the support they need to succeed.
After-School Academic Support
We’re excited to announce that Northley’s After-School Academic Support Program will begin in the coming weeks. This program gives students the chance to receive extra help with schoolwork, review challenging concepts, and strengthen key skills in a focused, supportive setting.
Sessions are led by our dedicated teachers who provide personalized academic support to help students stay on track and build confidence. Teachers and counselors will identify students who would benefit from this opportunity and communicate directly with families when a student is recommended to participate. This program is another way we’re helping every student reach their full potential.
Positive Office Referrals
Our students continue to impress us with their daily acts of respect, responsibility, and kindness. Through Positive Office Referrals, we’re shining a spotlight on those moments—big and small—that reflect true Northley pride. These acknowledgments remind our students that character counts and every positive choice matters.
Check Grades
We’re officially halfway through the marking period, which means now is the perfect time to check your child’s grades and progress in Skyward. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your child’s teachers. Staying proactive early in the quarter sets students up for success.
Walking to School Reminder
Safety always comes first. Please remind your child to use crosswalks and sidewalks when walking to and from school. Students from Brookhaven and Parkside should not walk or bike due to limited sidewalks in those areas. Thank you for helping us keep every student safe on their way to and from Northley.
Lost & Found
Our cafeteria lost and found is filling up fast with jackets, water bottles, and sweatshirts. If your child is missing something, have them take a look soon before the items are donated.
Fall Sports
Northley’s fall sports teams are in full swing, and the energy has been incredible. Whether it’s on the field, court, or sidelines, our student-athletes continue to show heart, teamwork, and determination.
We encourage families to come out, support our teams, and cheer with pride. Positive energy from the stands fuels our players and keeps the experience fun and respectful for everyone involved.
Safe2Say Something
The Safe2Say Something program remains one of the most important tools we have for keeping our school safe. It allows students to confidentially share concerns or alert us when someone might need help.
Please remind your child that using Safe2Say isn’t tattling—it’s leadership. It’s a way to protect themselves and their classmates, and it shows courage and care for others. [Safe2Say Link]
As we move into the heart of the school year, thank you for your continued support and partnership. The enthusiasm in our classrooms, hallways, and fields is contagious. Together, we’ll keep building a school where every student feels valued, challenged, and proud to call themselves a Viking.
