February 2024 Parent Bulletin

Dear Parents,

As we enter the Spring semester, I'd like to challenge all parents to be more present in your scholar's academic program. The Northshore Campus has a great PTC (Parent-Teacher CREW) that partners with the school to host events and fundraise for the campus. Engaging with your child's school will strengthen relationships with campus teachers and staff, leading to better student outcomes.

Children LOVE to see their parents at school programs and academic nights. Research shows that when families are involved with their children's education, children tend to perform better in school. For example, when scholars find their school environment to be supportive and caring and their parents engaged in their school lives, they are less likely to become involved in substance abuse, violence, and other problem behaviors.

To better serve you, our 21st Century Program hosts monthly parent-family engagement nights where parents can learn anything from how to help their child with their math homework to steps on repairing their credit. RSPA not only wants to touch the lives of our scholars, but our families as well. We hope to see you at our next event!

Ashley Miller,

RSPA Superintendent

Intent to Return Reminder:

Parents, your Intent to Return application for the 2024-2025 school year is now available! You must complete your application to secure your scholar’s seat for the next school year. Please log in to your SchoolMint account or check your email to get started.

Happy New Year, Tiger Family!

We are on the move, and our scholars and staff are ready to conquer the second month of the year. Last month, we hosted several events from our Dazzling Dolls performance at the Rockets halftime show, a family game night, and celebrated 100 Days of School.

We will have our second round of SLEDs this month on February 23rd. This is an opportunity for students to share their learning in all content areas. Be on the lookout for a Signup Genius notification from your child’s teacher. On February 10th, our PTC is hosting the 2nd Annual Sweetheart Ball. Make sure you purchase your tickets!

We’re celebrating Black History Month with a variety of activities throughout the month. Please see the flyer below to see the time of our Black History Program, “A Moment in Time.”

Mandatory tutorials have begun. Please allow your scholars to attend the weekly sessions. Teachers have provided the days they will tutor and will cover concepts that need additional review, including STAAR-aligned skills for our 3rd-6th grade scholars.

Our scholars will participate in Project-Based Learning (PBL) activities that are an extension of the TEKS their teacher is covering in the classroom. This is a great way for students to show their thinking in a creative way. All PBLs count as an assessment grade. Parents, please reinforce with your scholars to complete the projects assigned. Feel free to reach out to your scholar’s teacher if help is needed.

Parents, daily attendance is crucial to your scholar's success, and students with excessive absences are missing out on classroom instruction. State law requires students to attend 90% of the school year. Remember, three tardies are considered an absence, and students with 18 or more absences will face retention pending summer school.

Summer school letters have been sent home for students who are in danger of failing due to grades or attendance. Please contact the front office if you have any questions concerning the letter.

Thank you, parents, for all you do to support our scholars and campus. Let’s continue to make our second semester great!

Hello, Parents and Guardians,

This month, our focus is Diligence, which is to perform careful and persistent work or effort. Students will participate in role-playing activities as well as whole group lessons and watch videos that align with the topic. The goal is to teach scholars how to take pride in their work and aim to do their best at all tasks.

Be sure to join me for Coffee with the Counselor at 9:00 AM on February 7th!

February Tips for Planting a Spring Garden

General: Complete orders for new seeds from catalogs and online resources. Once the seeds arrive, label the front side of each packet with the year so that, in the future, you can quickly tell how old any unused seeds are. If starting seeds indoors, order inventory supplies, such as cell packs, transplant pots, potting mix, and fertilizer. Most pruning of woody plants may be carried out now while plants are dormant.

EDIBLE Garden: Inspect tillers, sprayers, and other gardening equipment to make sure they are well-maintained and ready to operate once the gardening season starts. Prune apple and peach trees to open the canopy and remove any diseased wood. Disinfect pruning tools between cuts to avoid spreading disease. Sow seeds indoors for crops such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, and onions that can be transplanted in March.

Testing Dates:

  • Campus-Based Assessments #4 are scheduled for Monday, February 5th, through February 9th.
  • District-Based Assessments #3 are scheduled for Tuesday, February 27th, through Friday, March 1st.

Attendance:

Attendance Matters Every Day! - TEXAS STATE LAW REQUIRES A WRITTEN EXCUSE FROM THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN WHENEVER A STUDENT IS ABSENT FROM SCHOOL.

To change an absence to an excused absence, a parent or doctor's note must be received in the attendance office no later than three days after the student returns to school. If a note is not received, the absence will remain unexcused (students who miss 10 or more school days may receive an attendance behavior contract and could be subject to compulsory attendance laws). A phone call does not take the place of a written note. Notes can be submitted to Mrs. Harsiton at [email protected].
