Northshore
OCTOBER 2018

Note From The Superintendent

Dear Family CREW!

Between Hurricane Harvey and having to reassign Northshore Campus students, we've certainly had our share of challenges over the last 15 months.  Despite the challenges, I cannot help but express how grateful I am for all that we still have to celebrate.

First, the date of our return to the Northshore campus is closer!  Below is a report of our progress in completing our checklist from the Fire Marshall's Office.
  • Ninety percent of all work needing to be completed is done!
  • Plans have been re-submitted to the County and we are waiting on their approval to move to the next phase.  Their turnaround time is generally 7-14  days
  • Once we receive plans back from the county, the remainder of the work will take 5-7 additional days.
  • Once 100% of the work is completed, a required re-inspection should take an additional 3-5 days.
  • Once the re-inspection is complete.... We're in!

I want to stress, at this point we are waiting, we have done all we can and must wait on the county to approve us to move forward.

As we await our return to the Northshore campus, please know that we are continuing to advance in ensuring a great school year for our student CREW!  Below are some highlights:

  • Fine Art classes have resumed!
  • Learning Labs (Formerly Field Experiences) are happening! - See our FB page for our IMPACT CREW's visit to the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington D.C.!
  • Auditions and rehearsals for our annual Christmas Production are underway!
  • Volunteer and PTO programs are being organized on the various campuses.  Stay tuned for details.
  • Daily and monthly CREW meetings designed to build students' character are underway.  Ask your children about their experiences.
  • RSPAppreciation is ongoing
  • Tell it Tuesday is almost here!

We want to continue to express our deepest appreciation for your patience and commitment to standby us during this time.  You are truly demonstrating CREW!

With Purpose,

Note From The Principal

Dear RSPA-NS Families,

I know we are all surprised at how fast September has flown by. Even though we've experienced some challenges, our teachers and scholars have been working with urgency to ensure top notch learning is happening. I've witnessed our scholars collaborating and enjoying engaging work stations to practice their skills. This week our scholars will take their 1st round of CBA testing so we can see exactly where they are and what must be done to meet each of their needs.  Progress reports were sent last week.  Please use this time to set goals with your children to motivate them to reach their full potential.  This year has so much in store, our entire team is excited to witness the growth our scholars will make.

We are planning some exciting activities to motivate our scholars to achieve at
their highest level.  In October I will roll out our Tiger Bucks school-wide incentive program, a perfect attendance DANCE, and an Honor Roll Breakfast with the principal. The tentative date for these activities will be October 30th and 31st.

Thanks to all of our parents who have continued to support us.  We will have some parent appreciation days ahead to show just how much we love you guys!  Let's continue our great partnership to ensure our scholars will be successful.

Attendance
Why does attendance matter?  Well, when students are not here they are not learning. Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not.  Studies show that scholars with poor attendance have lower achievement in reading, math, and general knowledge.  Every school day counts in a child's academic life. I need your help in making sure our scholars succeed in school by bringing them to school each day!

Reading

Even though we are a Fine Arts school, we emphasize strong reading skills. Set aside time to read to your students and in turn choose materials to foster confidence and aid strong reading skills. Allow and assist them as they read to you. Teachers are focusing on story elements: setting, character, plot and problem solution. Look for level readers that your teachers are sending home with students. Your scholars should be reading for 20-30 minutes a night. We invite you take turns letting the whole family have fun with this exercise.

Educationally yours,

Tonya McBride M.Ed.
Principal
