From the Superintendent
Hello Team Northshore,
Please join me in celebrating our Board of Directors. For the second year in a row, our very own NSD School Board was honored at the Washington State School Directors' Association (WSSDA) statewide conference as a 'Board of Distinction'. They are one of only ten large school district boards to be honored statewide. In even bigger news, our NSD Board was honored as the large district Board of the Year, a very prestigious honor and the first time NSD has been named a Board of the Year! When you have the opportunity, please congratulate Board President Sandy Hayes, Board Vice-President David Cogan, Director Amy Cast, Director Bob Swain, and Director Jacqueline McGourty. We are so blessed and thankful to have such hard working and dedicated board members as part of the team supporting our students and community. Imagine the possibilities...
As you know, computers are everywhere, changing every industry on the planet. Nationwide only 35% of all high schools teach computer science. The good news is, we’re on our way to change this! Northshore's participation in the Hour of Code has helped to make history. More than 100 million students have tried an Hour of Code. Northshore's schools have been participating in the Hour of Code for the past five years with support and encouragement from the Northshore Schools Foundation. Last year, almost every school participated! This year, every school is encouraged to have students engage in this significant learning event. We also encourage families to learn more about Hour of Code and explore the free tools on the Hour of Code website.
Warmest Regards,
Michelle Reid, Ed.D.
Superintendent

November is a very busy month for our schools. As noted on our printed calendars we have multiple non-school days and schedule adjustments that affect Wednesday early release days, elementary schools, and early learning programs. Don’t be the only one at school! Please take a moment to review our important dates for

Northshore District School's Board recently completed their third school improvement plan(SIP) visit, most recently visiting Frank Love Elementary. The SIP visits are an opportunity for the school administration to highlight the incredible work being done within their school to bring our 2017-22 Strategic Plan to life and provide an excellent education for all of our students. At each of these visits, the school board, superintendent and other District representatives have been impressed by the work to improve academics, social-emotional learning and equity.

District Department Highlight
|
|
Our incredible Support Services team continues to adapt to our district's steady growth and change. Did you know that Support Services encompasses capital projects, operations, transportation, warehouse, mail, graphics, maintenance, custodial, grounds, fields and theater as well as facility rentals? Some examples of their ongoing district support include: new building projects, maintaining a safe, clean and comfortable environment for student learning along with safe transportation of students, warehouse supply deliveries, receiving and shipping of mail, and even graphics and printing. The Northshore School District and all of our schools would not be able to operate smoothly and safely without the hard work of all of those in Support Services!
