TOWNSHIP PARTNERS WITH ITC TO HELP LOCAL ORGANIZATION

The season of giving may be over, but our community still needs assistance. Our very own Township Supervisor, Robert Nix II, graciously accepted a $2,000 check from Julie Garavaglia of ITC: A Fortis Company, at the end of December to assist our community. Additionally, Northville Township staff donated $228 as part of a causal day fund. Township Manager Chip Snider was able to combine the amounts to give Civic Concern $2,228 to purchase food for families in need right here in Northville.

Not familiar with Northville Civic Concern? Northvile Civic Concern is an all-volunteer organization founded in 1983 by a group of concerned citizens to benefit the needy of our community.  Their primary purpose is to provide food to those in need. Food is distributed on the second and fourth Fridays of each month.
They are a licensed, not-for-profit organization offering temporary services to those who qualify and live in Northville or Northville Township school districts. They are currently assisting 168 families in Northville.

How can you help? They are in need of the following items:

  • Paper products (toilet paper, paper towel, facial tissues)
  • Soap (dish, face, shampoo, conditioner)
  • Baby items (diapers, wipes, formula, baby food)
  • non-perishable food items

Items can be dropped off during business hours or call 248.344.1033 to arrange a time . For more information, please visit the  Northville Civic Concern web-site. #COMMUINTYPARTNERS

FRAUD PREVENTION TIPS
Tax season is approaching and along with it, comes the unfortunately consequence of ID Theft/Tax Fraud. Our Public Safety team wants to share these tips with you:

  • Routinely check your credit reports. You are legally entitled to one per year from each of the main credit bureaus. Links are available through annualcreditreport.com
  • Shred any documents containing personal information prior to disposing.
  • Be vigilant and regularly review bank and credit card statements for suspicious activity.
  • When making purchases online make sure you use reputable websites.
  • Stay current with ongoing scams, information is maintained on ic3.gov and ftc.gov. Suspicious emails and calls can be reported to those sites as well.
  • Do not provide personal information in response to unsolicited calls or emails.
  • Do not open suspicious emails, never open attachments in unsolicited emails.
  • Use complex passwords and change them regularly. Try to include characters, numbers, and upper/lowercase letters.
  • File your tax return as soon as possible to limit the opportunity for a fraudulent return to be filed.
  • Limit use of unsecured Wifi networks and protect your devices with firewalls/antivirus software.
Additionally, the Michigan Department of Treasury has recently released a press release warning taxpayers of some recent tax scams. Here is the full release for more information.
