NORTHWAY WEEKLY UPDATE | Week of Oct 7
"Think Again - Radical Love" | Scripture: Mark 10:17-27
Join us On Campus or Online | Sunday, October 10 at 10:00 am

This Sunday we continue our worship series Think Again with Radical Love based on Mark 10:17-27. We will see what Jesus has to share about how to enter the Kingdom of God. Meet us online or on campus and we’ll see you on Sunday!
A Note from the Ministry Team...
Children learn from us. They learn from our actions, and our words. As a parent, there have been times that I have changed my behavior after seeing it reflected, not so positively, in my children. It is no different in worship. Our children, the great observers, learn how to worship by our example. At Northway, we look for ways to engage the children, and for opportunities to participate as worship leaders in our services. Donna Schmidt guides our elementary aged children to serve as worship leaders every time they share their music with us whether it is singing or playing on the beautiful set of Orff instruments (xylophones, glockenspiels, etc.) we are so blessed to have.

In the Music department here at Northway, we have offerings for adults and for children up until fifth grade, but you may have been wondering what is available for the youth? Providing opportunities to serve in worship through music should continue following fifth grade. The pandemic has hindered creating a joyful noise unto the Lord through singing, and for the children and now the youth, we are turning to instruments.

Much like our “Think Again” worship series, I needed to think again about ways in which to incorporate the youth at Northway. Life looks a little different due to the pandemic. We have the pre-pandemic times, but we are not yet at the post-pandemic times. After thinking again, we have created a music time at the beginning of the youth Sunday School class. The youth are learning to play handchimes and are picking things up quickly. This can also be done in a hybrid way with an actual handchime or two being delivered to the online student so they are able to participate. I believe you must start somewhere and not wait for the “right” conditions. I am thoroughly enjoying working with the youth, and even the teachers are getting involved! You will be hearing the beautiful sounds of the handchimes soon in the service, and witnessing the youth as worship leaders.

We are just at the beginning of a 12 month process of discovery.
As Pastor Law shares, this part is like going to the mechanic or the doctor for an initial report of the challenges we face. Some of it we know,
some we don’t. Some we have already named, some may surprise
or discomfort us because there will be some hard truths in here. Without this honesty, we cannot continue to grow toward health and strength.

Please contact the church office if you have any other questions.
MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meets the first and third Thursdays of the month from 9:15 – 11:45 am. The next MOPS meeting will take place on Thursday, October 21. Childcare is available with advance reservation. If you have any questions about MOPS meetings, playdates, sign-up or childcare, please contact the Church Office.
Focus On:
Catholic Charities Dallas
Food Program Partnership
On the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 12:30—3:00 pm, Northway partners with Catholic Charities Dallas and North Texas Food Bank in Northway's front parking lot to help feed hungry families in the community. Mobile drops and food distribution are done using a “drive-thru” model, with clients staying in their cars while volunteers place boxes of food into the trunks of their vehicles.
We are in need of volunteers who are willing to help load boxes.

Volunteers will be required to wear masks, gloves, and practice social distancing.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Rev. Jose Almanza to learn more.
