Northwest ISD school board votes to postpone elections to November
The Northwest ISD Board of Trustees held a special video conference meeting on Friday, March 27, unanimously voting to delay the school district’s scheduled May elections to November thanks to a proclamation from Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

On March 18, Gov. Abbott issued a proclamation allowing entities calling elections for May to move those events to the next uniform election date in November. The proclamation was made in the interest of public health during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Northwest ISD trustees used this ability to postpone their school board elections and the district’s bond election to November.

This action will allow district residents to abide by county shelter-in-place proclamations and social distancing recommendations. Though the vote on this bond referendum is very important to the district, the NISD Board of Trustees wants to make sure the health and safety of voters and election workers are maintained.

Both elections will now take place on Nov. 3, 2020, unless Gov. Abbott and/or the Texas State Legislature make a decision to hold special elections. Trustees have until Aug. 17 to make any necessary revisions to elections thanks to the governor’s proclamation.
