TO: NISD Students, Families, and Staff
FROM: Ryder Warren
SUBJECT: Northwest ISD Possible Closure
I want to thank everyone for their efforts during this very crazy time in all of our lives. As I alluded to this morning, we have been constantly tracking both student and staff absences this week, and both of those groups have seen immense rises in positive COVID rates.
I need to make all NISD stakeholders aware of an impending decision. Because of the rising absentee rates of our campus staff, it is becoming increasingly difficult to operate many of our schools – there are simply too few educators and support staff to fill in the gaps.
Tomorrow (Thursday, January 13), we will make a decision on either closing targeted campuses or closing the district as a whole. We have close to 400 classroom teachers affected by COVID right now, along with many more staff members and students, and we must break this cycle.
Parents and Caregivers – the reason I am sending this out now is to make sure you have time to start making plans if that decision does come to either close campuses or the district. We know the hardship this could create for families and want to give you as much time as we can to make childcare arrangements. A possible closure at this time could be at least two school days around the upcoming long weekend, which would give us five consecutive days out of the buildings. Everyone will receive another update in the morning, so please stay tuned.
