Dr. Ryder Warren announces his retirement

At Northwest ISD’s school board meeting Monday evening, Dr. Ryder Warren announced his retirement as superintendent, effective at the end of the current school year (June 30, 2022).
Since arriving at Northwest ISD in 2016, Dr. Warren has championed initiatives that empower students to achieve personal success in their futures. Under his leadership, Northwest ISD has focused on key academic areas such as literacy as well as college, career, military and life readiness.
With the announcement, the board will soon begin a search for his successor.

September's superintendent report available
|
|
Dr. Warren — working alongside the students and staff involved in the district's Creative Media Production Academy — produces a monthly superintendent report, highlighting special events, announcements and other district news.
In the September edition of The Superintendent Report, Dr. Warren addresses student dress codes, the TikTok challenge and the upcoming renovations at Northwest High School.

Northwest ISD now accepting name recommendations for new schools
|

The Northwest ISD Board of Trustees and administration are now accepting name submissions for two new schools, an elementary school in the Northstar development and a middle school in the LeTara development. Community members are invited to share their naming suggestions over the next two weeks.
Nominations will be received through Friday, October 8, and reviewed by a naming selection committee. Recommendations for names will be presented to the board on Monday, October 18. Trustees will vote on the names at their Monday, November 15, school board meeting.

Friday, October 8, is an early-release day for NISD schools. The dismissal times will be:
- Elementary Schools: 11:40 a.m.
- Middle Schools: 12:50 p.m.
- Steele Accelerated High School: 12:30 p.m.
- Byron Nelson, Eaton and Northwest High Schools: 12:40 p.m.

Monday, October 11, is a student holiday and a staff flex day. All NISD schools will be closed. School will resume on Tuesday, October 12.

Eaton senior wins District 12 art competition
|
|
The office of U.S. Congresswoman Kay Granger has recognized a V.R. Eaton High School student’s artwork as part of an annual contest it organizes, showcasing the student’s talent among others in the county.
In the 2021 Congressional Art Competition, Eaton Eagle senior Abigail Legra received first place in District 12 for her photography work entitled “Short Sighted,” seen above.

64 NISD students designated as National Recognition Programs Scholars
|
|
The College Board has designated 64 Northwest ISD high school students as College Board National Recognition Program Scholars, based on academic achievements and outstanding performance on the PSAT and/or AP exams.
The College Board, which administers the PSAT and SAT, recognizes academic excellence through its National Recognition Programs in the following categories: National African American Recognition Program Scholars, National Indigenous Recognition Program Scholars, National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholars and National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program Scholars.

Granger fourth grader crowned Miss West Texas Fair & Rodeo Jr. Miss 2021
|

After much hard work and determination, Granger Elementary fourth-grader Hayden Slagle has earned the title of Miss West Texas Fair & Rodeo Jr. Miss, becoming the inaugural recipient of the honor.
For Hayden, lots of time and effort goes into rodeo pageants. For the West Texas Fair & Rodeo, she even had to give a three-minute speech, which she only had two weeks to memorize.

Band Showcase scheduled for October 4
|
|
Northwest ISD bands will host a special performance at the district stadium on Monday, October 4, with proceeds benefiting the district’s band programs.
The fourth annual Northwest ISD Band Showcase, sponsored by Bell’s Music Shop, will begin at 7 p.m. at Northwest ISD Stadium. Marching bands from all three comprehensive high schools – Byron Nelson, Eaton and Northwest – will perform, and all six Northwest ISD middle school bands will also perform. The event will culminate with a combined performance from all district band programs.

NEF golf cart raffle open through October 6
|
|
The Northwest ISD Education Foundation golf cart raffle is your chance to win a one-of-a-kind, custom golf cart built by Urban Buggy USA. This golf cart seats 4, and includes black leather seats, custom wheels with silver rims and a windshield.
Raffle tickets are $100 each and only 200 tickets in total will be sold! Funds raised benefit teachers and students across the district through teaching grants and student scholarships. The last day to purchase tickets is Wednesday, October 6!

Monthly special education parent trainings are provided by the NISD Special Education Department, including behavior strategies and creating manageable schedules.
