NISD Welcomes Back Nearly 27,000 Students
Northwest ISD welcomed back our students and staff to the district's 31 campuses on Wednesday. Thank you for all you did to contribute to a great start to the 2021-2022 school year!

Nearly 27,000 in-person and remote learners are currently enrolled in the district, making Northwest ISD the fastest-growing school district in the North Texas region. NISD's enrollment will continue to grow over the next several weeks as even more students enroll.

Check out some of the great first-day interactions in our Flickr gallery of photos from several schools across our district!
Berkshire Elementary Opens New Campus
Northwest ISD would like to welcome our new Berkshire Bears to the district!

On Wednesday, the district's 20th elementary school — Berkshire Elementary — opened their doors and welcomed hundreds of students to NISD's newest campus.

Berkshire was funded through the district’s 2017 bond program. Located just west of Highway 287 near Bonds Ranch Road in the northwest portion of the Berkshire development, the campus was designed to serve 850 students in one of the fastest-growing areas of Northwest ISD.
Updated Bus Route Information Available
As with the start of all school years in our fast-growth district, transportation was a challenge that will improve in the coming days. This year, more than 3,400 new bus riders joined already-completed bus routes in the few days since route information was emailed to families. With this challenge in mind, the district transportation department is in the process of adding these students and more to the existing routes and rerouting when needed. As with previous school years, this work will continue for the first week or two of school.

Route information will continue to be added to the district’s online route system, the MyView tracking app (available on the iOS App Store and Google Play), and in the Home Access Center. Thank you for your understanding as our transportation staff work diligently to meet the needs of all families.
Are You Receiving NISD Text Messages?
With feedback from Northwest ISD's latest parent survey, the district plans to utilize text messaging as an efficient and preferred way to communicate with families and staff about important dates and events.

To opt in and receive messages, text Y to 67587.
Supply Chain Issues May Alter Meal Offerings
As school food service programs countrywide are returning to normal service options and menus, NISD's food service programs are facing unprecedented issues with supply chain management that will undoubtedly cause the district to alter our posted menus with little to no notice.

We are working very closely with our distributors and manufacturers to secure both the food and supply items needed to support our program, however the availability of these items has been changing on a daily basis.

While it is our intention to serve the posted menu every day at every school, supply issues will not make this possible throughout this school year until the supply chain issues are rectified.

When changes to the posted school menu become necessary, we will attempt to substitute the scheduled menu item with another that is as similar as possible, to the extent we are able to do so, based on the products we are able to receive.

Applications Available for Free and Reduced-Price Meal Program
Applications are now available for NISD's Meal Sense, the district's free and reduced-price meal program. Free and reduced-price school meals are provided to students whose families meet certain income requirements.

Please know that even if your child is receiving free meals as part of the federal program at the elementary and middle school level, receiving Meal Sense support also supports children in other ways. Additionally, knowing the accurate amount of students eligible for and receiving Meal Sense ensures campuses have appropriate student programs to meet population needs.

Electronic applications are available on the Food Service website, and paper applications can be picked up at the food service office or at any Northwest ISD school.
