Northwest ISD welcomed roughly 24,000 students for the first week of the 2018-19 school year, about 1,000 more students than the first week of school during 2017-18.

Curtis Elementary School and Adams Middle School added to the district's size with their first classes ever, aiding the growing Haslet and Fort Worth area of Northwest ISD. This area annually represents one of the fastest-growing areas of the district in terms of student population.

Northwest ISD photographers visited several campuses for the first day of the new school year, with photos available on the district Flickr account.
Verify transportation in HAC to use SafeStop app
The SafeStop bus-tracking application logo

Reliant Transportation has been working diligently to ensure students are arriving safely to and from school. Because of the increase of student enrollment and approximately 2,000 students who did not register for transportation services prior to start of school, we will continue reworking routes for the first few weeks of school.

If your child is eligible for transportation, please make sure you have elected to use the school bus when enrolling online. You can check this status by logging into Home Access Center. Once logged in, you can view your child's transportation status. If you do not see a bus route listed, but your child is using transportation, this means you are not registered for transportation. Please contact your child's campus (the registrar or office manager) so that your intention to ride the bus reflects a "yes" in the system.

It is important to update this information so it reflects accurately in the SafeStop bus-tracking app. We expect to have all students who have changed their transportation status on bus routes reflected in our system and the SafeStop app by Monday, Sept. 10. The SafeStop app allows you to receive real-time tracking updates of your child's school bus at your fingertips. For information about the app and download links, click here.

Please remember the app will not show transportation for your child if it is not listed in HAC.

Byron Nelson High School's volleyball team has earned the top ranking in the Texas Girls Coaches Association's poll of the 6A classification, the largest in the state.

The Bobcats earned the No. 1 ranking in the Aug. 27 poll following victories over the previous top-ranked 6A team, the Oak Ridge War Eagles, and the current top-ranked 5A team, the Lovejoy Leopards. Byron Nelson currently only has one loss on the year.

Online registration remains open for the 2018-19 school year for those who have not already completed their registration.

Registration for students new to Northwest ISD is open throughout the year. Families of returning students should have already submitted registration, and if they have not yet submitted it they must do so immediately.

Online enrollment is managed through the PowerSchool system for quick registration, as data is saved and stored for the next school year. For more information about enrollment, visit www.nisdtx.org/enrollment.

Is your child at a new campus and you want to follow the school on your social media platforms? While schools will connect directly with you through email newsletters, texts or phone calls, they regularly update their social media with news and photos from school events.
Where Northwest ISD publishes news
The Northwest News social media banner

This Northwest News email newsletter is one of the primary ways Northwest ISD contacts families, but it's not the only way.

Northwest ISD regularly posts updates to the news section of the district website at www.nisdtx.org, with the biggest news included in this newsletter. More frequent updates of news and school events are posted to the district's Twitter, Facebook and Instagram social media accounts. Any vital information will be emailed to you, while we use social media to also show a snapshot of some of the unique activities at schools as well as accolades of students and staff.

Finally, if a district photographer was at a school event, photos can usually be found on the district's Flickr account and are free to download. Video segments made by the district can be found on its YouTube account.

When in doubt, check the district's website or social media accounts for general news. Parents and families will always be directly contacted in emergency situations through phone, texting, email or a combination of the three.
