Last day of school is next Friday! | |
The end of the 2023-2024 school year is almost here! The last day of classes at all Northwest ISD schools is Friday, May 24, which is an early-release school day. Elementary schools will dismiss at 11:40 a.m., middle schools will dismiss at 12:55 p.m. and high schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. (Steele ECHS at 12:20 p.m.).
We look forward to ending the school year with excellence!

Graduation ceremonies take place later this month | |
Graduation is officially less than two weeks away! As with previous years, all graduation ceremonies will be live streamed, with links to be sent closer to each ceremony.
Byron Nelson, Eaton and Northwest high schools will host graduation ceremonies on Tuesday, May 28, at the University of North Texas. Steele Early College High School will host its ceremony on May 24 at Eaton High School’s Performing Arts Center. For specific information about each ceremony, view this webpage.

Trustee awards honor student achievements | |
The NISD Board of Trustees recognized nearly 700 students from the Eaton and Byron Nelson High School feeder patterns for achieving various regional, state and national honors at the Trustee Awards of Excellence ceremonies over the last two weeks!

A similar ceremony for the Northwest High School feeder pattern is scheduled for tonight.

Online enrollment for 2024-2025 remains open | |
Online enrollment is now open for the 2024-2025 school year, and families can complete an easy 1-2-3 process for returning students to quickly register their children.
Enrollment is now open for all children – pre-kindergarten and up – whether they are currently enrolled, returning to the district after leaving or brand new to Northwest ISD. For families of currently enrolled students returning next year, the process will take just a few minutes with the following quick, three-step process outlined on this page.

Summer Opportunity Highlight
Aramark's Jr. Chef Academy
Students will learn basic cooking skills and get hands-on cooking experience. Each day students will cook an entree and a snack. After completing the academy, each student will receive a cookbook with all featured recipes. Happening June 10-13 and June 17-20, this year's camp will take place at Byron Nelson High School.

Offering eight thrilling camp sessions designed to captivate every young mind, Technocamp is tailored specifically for incoming first through incoming sixth graders. Free summer meals coming to two campuses in June | |
Northwest ISD will again offer free summer meals to children who are ages 18 or younger as well as students with disabilities who are ages 21 and younger as part of the federal Summer Food Service Program.
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a U.S. Department of Agriculture nutrition program administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA). For the children who rely on school meals during the academic year, these meals offer a source of good nutrition when school is out for the long summer vacation.
Meals will be served June 5-30 at Prairie View and Clara Love elementary schools. Click here for more information, including serving times.

NISD Interview Fair set for May 30 | |

NISD will host an Interview Fair on Thursday, May 30, at the NISD Administration Building. A Meet and Mingle event will occur from 1-2:30 p.m., with invitation-only interviews scheduled from 2:30-4 p.m.

Vaccination clinics available this Saturday | |
Passport Health/Staying Healthy Medical Services will be conducting two children’s vaccination clinics this Saturday to get your students up to date for the school year. The clinics will be held at Pike Middle School (2200 Texan Drive, Justin) from 9-11 a.m. and the NISD Administration Building (2001 Texan Drive, Justin) from 12-5 p.m.
These clinics are intended for NISD students who are missing required vaccines. More information can be found here.

NHS freshman wins state title, sets national record | |
Student-athletes from Byron Nelson and Northwest high schools traveled to the UIL Track & Field State Championships earlier this month with Northwest High School freshman Cooper Lutkenhaus coming home as a state champion in the 5A 800-meter run.
Cooper ran an incredible final 200 meters as he separated from the field and finished with a time of 1:49.84, setting a national class record as the fastest time by a high school freshman in U.S. history. Cooper finished nearly four seconds ahead of the rest of the nine-person field which featured all juniors and seniors.
In addition to Cooper’s state championship and gold medal, four other NISD student-athletes stood on the podium at the Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium in Austin.
Sky Brazzell, a junior from Byron Nelson, won the silver medal in the girls 6A 400-meter run with a time of 53.84 seconds. Sky was also part of the Byron Nelson 4x100-meter relay team that took third place and the bronze medal with a school-record time of 45.43 seconds. Other members of the team were Bryce Brazzell, Grace Berry and Lily McDowell.

Fort Worth Police hosting bike safety event Saturday | |
All Northwest ISD students and families are invited to a bike safety event hosted by the Fort Worth Police Department this Saturday, May 18, at 10 a.m. at J.C. Thompson Elementary School (440 Wishbone Lane, Haslet).
Organized by certified bike officers from FWPD, the event will include presentations on crosswalk crossing safety, how to correctly maneuver safely with a bike while crossing the street, proper bike hand signals, explanations of street signs, etc.
Parents and students are encouraged to bring their personal bikes and helmets to the event.

NISD musicals earn prestigious award nominations | |
The theatre programs at Byron Nelson and Eaton high schools have garnered a total of 15 nominations in the prestigious Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theater Awards (HSMTA) and the Casa Mañana Betty Lynn Buckley Awards. As part of the nominations, Byron Nelson’s production of “Tuck Everlasting” is up for best musical by each organization.
“Tuck Everlasting” received nine nominations from Broadway Dallas HSMTA and five from Casa Mañana’s Buckley Awards. In addition, Eaton’s production of “High School Musical” earned a Buckley Awards nomination in the Excellence in a Student Orchestra category.

Taylor Myrick, Ms. Farmer and the impact one student can make | |
“What happened to her really helped us openly talk about people’s differences and helped other kids who were struggling with differences."
As Kay Granger Elementary School kindergarten teacher Ruth Farmer gets set for retirement, she turned the spotlight on a former student. The relationship between Ms. Farmer and Byron Nelson High School sophomore Taylor Myrick is special, and the impact Taylor has made on her former teacher is immeasurable. Three NISD teachers earn WhataTeacher Grant | |
Congratulations to the Northwest ISD WhataTeacher Grant Recipients: Leigh Ann Stephens at Hughes Elementary, Christopher Martin at Byron Nelson High School and Laurie Bartels at Northwest High School!
These educators were nominated by their principals during the campaign and selected by a committee for making an extraordinary impact on their students and in their community. Each grant recipient received a $1,000 grant, a Whataburger backpack full of swag and lunch or breakfast provided by Whataburger for the whole campus.
Only 60 teachers were chosen from across 16 states to receive the grant. Congratulations to NISD's three recipients, and thank you for everything you do!

Mobile Food Pantry open this Saturday | |
Northwest ISD is partnering with Tarrant Area Food Bank and the Northwest ISD Education Foundation to offer a monthly mobile market to provide groceries and assistance to families in need.

Help restock immediate needs in the NEF Resource Store and Library | |
The Northwest ISD Education Foundation’s resource store and library provides support to NISD teachers and students through free resources and educational materials. NISD teachers can “shop” for school and classroom supplies, snack packs, books and more. All items are free to district educators! This school year, NEF has served more than 1,290 educators and distributed more than 20,000 books to support classrooms from across the district!
You can help by donating from the store’s online wishlist. Immediate needs include elementary books, snacks, binders, expo markers and college-ruled composition books. You can also help by volunteering in the store! Volunteers help sticker and prep inventory, restock shelves and fulfill online requests from teachers.
