Byron Nelson playing for back-to-back state championships on Saturday

The Byron Nelson High School volleyball team will be looking to capture its second consecutive state championship when the Bobcats play in the UIL 6A Division I Championship match on Saturday.

The Bobcats, currently undefeated with a 41-0 record, are the defending state and national champions and coming off of a state semifinal sweep over Cypress Ranch. Byron Nelson comes into Saturday as the only undefeated team in the state and still ranked number one in the nation.

On Thursday, Bobcat Nation celebrated their team with a state walk, and now they are all set to take over the Culwell Center on Saturday! Go Bobcats!

Provide input on 2026-2027 district calendar; deadline is Friday

Northwest ISD invites students, families and staff to provide their input on proposed calendar options for the 2026-2027 school year. Feedback can be submitted at www.nisdtx.org/calendarinput and will be accepted through 5 p.m. Friday, November 21.

Both calendars feature a similar structure with the same start date on August 12 and the same dates for Thanksgiving, winter and spring breaks. One version features an earlier last day of school, however, while the other option includes a mini fall break in October with a later last day of school.

NISD Angel Tree - All angels adopted; you can still help this holiday season

Volunteers are hard at work accepting and processing gifts for more than 1,800 Northwest ISD students — or angels — who were adopted as part of our annual virtual Angel Tree.

Adopted an Angel?

Deliver Angel Tree items, along with a printed copy of the form for the angel, to the Dennis McCreary Multipurpose Facility (former Pike Middle School gymnasium), located at 2200 Texan Drive in Justin, by Monday, December 1.

Items are accepted Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Special extended hours of 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. will be available on Monday, December 1, at McCreary Multipurpose Facility, as well as Eaton High School and Byron Nelson High Schools. Please remember the district will be closed for Thanksgiving break the week of November 24 to 28.

How can you help?

If you still want to help the Angel Tree program in other way, the Northwest Education Foundation is accepting donations to help with family equity – ensuring siblings receive comparable gifts – and shop for unreturned angels.

You can provide monetary donations, or purchase items for Santa's workshop from the Amazon wish list. Links for both can be found below.

Additionally, community members are invited to volunteer for the Angel Tree program, helping sort and organize gifts and deliveries.

Special Olympics basketball registration open now, space is limited

NISD celebrates Veterans Day

Northwest ISD schools celebrated Veterans Day with assemblies, parades and heartfelt tributes honoring the brave men and women who have served and are currently serving our nation. Students waved flags, sang patriotic songs and learned about service and sacrifice, filling our campuses with gratitude and pride.

Thank you to all veterans, especially those in our NISD community, for your courage and dedication.

Moments that Matter

Through the Moments that Matter program, Chisholm Trail Middle School students are learning the values of pride, responsibility, fortitude and strength — inspired by the stories of Medal of Honor recipients.

Marine Corps veteran and Texas History teacher Isai Conchas brings these lessons to life by sharing his own experiences serving in the military. Thank you to Mr. Conchas and all veterans for inspiring courage, character and service in the next generation.

Character Does Matter

Students at Kay Granger Elementary got an incredible experience today as local veterans volunteering with the Travis Manion Foundation were on campus to teach "Character Does Matter" lessons!

These heroes taught the Wranglers about kindness, teamwork, gratitude and forgiveness! As we celebrate the brave men and women who protect our nation, it is inspiring to see our students learn character traits that will stay with them throughout their lives.

Love and Schluter elementary schools celebrate their namesakes

Students and staff at Carl Schluter Elementary and Clara Love Elementary were excited to celebrate their school’s namesakes over the last couple of weeks as they held Carl Day and Clara Day, respectively.

Students had the opportunity to participate in learning experiences based on the passions and interests of their namesakes, including fishing, aviation and basketball for Mr. Schluter and agriculture, academics and racing for Mrs. Love.

Members of each family were in attendance for the celebrations, and students from local high schools lent a hand. Students from Eaton High School, including the Aviation Academy, helped at Schluter Elementary while FFA students from Northwest High School assisted at Love Elementary.

NISD celebrates 34 student-athletes on National Signing Day

Congratulations to 34 student-athletes from each of the district's comprehensive high schools – Byron Nelson High School, Eaton High School and Northwest High School – who took part in National Signing Day ceremonies last week, signifying their intent to play collegiate sports and continue their academic pursuits.

Help the new NEF Resource Store and Library

The Northwest ISD Education Foundation’s resource store and library provides support to NISD teachers and students through free resources and educational materials. NISD teachers can “shop” for school and classroom supplies, snack packs, books and more. All items are free to district educators! Already this year, more than 600 teachers have shopped the store at its new location and saved more than $385,000!

You can help by donating from the store’s online wishlist or the library wishlist. Immediate needs include books and snacks. You can also help by volunteering in the store! Volunteers help sticker and prep inventory, restock shelves and fulfill online requests from teachers.
