Our newsletter has a new look

Northwest News has a new look! Users on mobile devices now serve as the primary audience for our newsletters, and this new look will help Northwest News be more readable on these smaller screens. We also plan to shorten content with the most relevant information in the newsletter, followed by links for more information. Expect other Northwest ISD newsletters to receive redesigns soon, too.
Provide your input on 2019-20 calendar

Provide your input on what our 2019-20 calendar should look like! Today and tomorrow are the final days to vote for one of three calendar options, with the district's trustees to approve a calendar at an upcoming board meeting. Three choices are available to vote for: two of which feature earlier yearly start and end dates, while the third largely mirrors this year's calendar. Voting ends this Friday, Jan. 11.
Byron Nelson, Eaton musicals taking place soon

Byron Nelson and Eaton high schools will soon perform their first musicals of 2019! The Bobcats will perform "The Drowsy Chaperone" from Jan. 24 to 27, while the Eagles will perform "Peter Pan" from Jan. 31 to Feb. 3. District offers free developmental screenings for young children

Northwest ISD's Parents as Teachers programs offers free developmental screenings for young children, with appointments available. These screenings assess motor skills, social and emotional development, problem-solving, and communications skills. Screenings are available for children ages 6 months to 5 years. Additionally, a kindergarten readiness screening is available for children who are 3-5 years old.
CTE pathway, academy priority enrollment requests due by Jan. 15

Priority enrollment requests for Northwest ISD's CTE pathways and academies are due by Tuesday, Jan. 15, after which time CTE staff will review submissions before sending academy acceptance letters on Feb. 8. To apply or learn more, visit the district CTE website.
State legislative session beginning

The 86th Texas legislative session has begun, with state education law stated as a focus of the new legislature. For updates about the process and its relation to issues that affect Northwest ISD, visit the district's legislative website.
District middle school dance team tryouts coming in March

Northwest ISD's new districtwide middle school dance team will begin its second season in 2019-20, and students who will be in middle school next year can try out for the team in March. Parents can also register to receive updates about the tryout process, which will take place at Northwest High School.
Free GED prep course available

In partnership with Tarrant County College, Northwest ISD Adult & Community Education is excited to announce an upcoming free GED prep course. The course will be held at the TCC Center of Excellence for Aviation, Transportation & Logistics near Alliance Airport. Registration is limited to the first 20 applicants. A mandatory orientation takes place Jan. 18, while the classes take place in February and March.
