Academy students running audio and video operations at district stadium

During home football games at Northwest ISD Stadium, it's easy to see the effort put in by the players and fine arts participants. What isn't as easy to see is the effort put in by the students running major parts of the event itself, though their work is evident.

Students from Northwest ISD's Creative Media Production Academy, housed at Northwest High School, operate the videoboard and all related aspects of home games at Northwest ISD Stadium, including the cameras, sound equipment, game-day production and much, much more. Such operation requires specialized skills, which they develop in their broadcast classes.

Read about the great things students are doing in our new magazine

Enjoy reading stories about students leading unique academic projects throughout the district, such as the story spotlighted at the top of this newsletter? Then read the inaugural issue of Northwest Navigator, the district's new magazine.

Northwest Navigator will see three additional releases during the 2017-18 school year, and each issue will serve as a showcase for our students' talents and accolades. The magazine will be digitally sent to all district families, and a limited number of printed copies will be available (and placed in schools and provided to local businesses).

Future issues will incorporate student stories and photos when possible. If your child was featured in the magazine, please email Anthony Tosie, communications specialist and magazine editor, at Physical copies arrive roughly two weeks after digital copies are emailed. If you'd like to advertise in the magazine, please contact EFPages, magazine partner, at

National Merit distinction earned by 26 district students
For their top scores on the PSAT, 26 Northwest ISD students have earned distinction in the National Merit Scholar program, representing each of the district's three comprehensive high schools.

To earn National Merit distinction, students must score among the top in the state or nation on the PSAT or National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test during their junior year of high school. The National Merit Scholarship Program recognizes students who are among the roughly 16,000 top scorers as Semifinalists, while students among the roughly 34,000 top scorers earn Commended status. More than 1.5 million high school students take one of the qualifying tests during their junior year.

Additionally, the College Board partners with the NMSP to honor roughly 5,000 students through the National Hispanic Recognition Program. These students are among the top Hispanic or Latino test-takers in the nation. Students can be recognized through this program as well as the National Merit program, as two Northwest ISD students were this year.
