Three students named National Merit Finalists
Hannah Stauss, Grant Westfall and Sarah Cornerstone
Congratulations to Byron Nelson's Sarah Cornerstone and Hannah Stauss and Eaton's Grant Westfall for being named National Merit Finalists! The distinction is a prestigious honor for those who rank among the top 1 percent of PSAT test-takers in the nation and submit strong applications that take into account academic transcripts, SAT scores, school activities and personal essays.

Northwest ISD's superintendent and assistant superintendent for facilities recently held a Facebook Live video chat regarding the attendance boundary committee's proposed 2019-20 recommendations, and that walkthrough can now be seen online. Additionally, PDF maps of each campus level boundary proposal (elementary, middle and high school zones) are now also available. The recommendations follow community input through an online Thoughtexchange discussion about the most important factors when making attendance boundaries.
Mark your calendar for Expo on Feb. 28

Save the date of Thursday, Feb. 28, for our annual Expo event! On this day, students from schools across the district will present their transformational learning projects. The event is held at Northwest High School and scheduled to last from 6 to 8 p.m., with refreshments available from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A schedule of presentations can be seen at this link.
Northwest softball hosting autism awareness fundraiser, game

Want to support autism awareness? Come support Northwest High School's softball team as they host a T-shirt fundraiser and autism awareness game. Proceeds benefit Autism Speaks, which provides support services for those with autism and their families. Shirts are on sale throughout February for $12 each, while the autism awareness game takes place April 12.
NEF scholarship application now open
Graduating district seniors can now complete the Northwest ISD Education Foundation's annual scholarship application, which will enter them for various scholarship opportunities. In addition, several school-sponsored organizations are now accepting scholarship applications.

Tuition-based pre-kindergarten lottery application now open

The application process for Northwest ISD's 2019-20 tuition-based pre-kindergarten program is now open. The tuition-based program is a half-day pre-K session during every regular school day. To be eligible for the program, potential students must live within Northwest ISD boundaries and be 4 years old by Sept. 1.

Northwest ISD will host its second annual Teacher Career Fair on April 4, when quality applicants will have the opportunity to meet campus administrators and take part in two interviews. This is an invitation-only event for those who apply and meet the district teaching criteria.
February is CTE Awareness Month, see our CTE program's website for stories
February is CTE Awareness Month, when career and technical education programs are celebrated for the work they do preparing students for life after school. Northwest ISD's CTE programs are available across the district, along with our eight academies and 19 pathways. More information about each is available on the CTE website, along with links to the CTE program's social media accounts and blog, which share stories of student success.

Dr. Mary Seltzer named director of student services
Dr. Mary Seltzer, principal of Lakeview Elementary School, has been named Northwest ISD's director of student services, a position she will begin after the current school year. Dr. Seltzer has been with Northwest ISD since 2007 and has a wealth of teaching and educational leadership experience. A search for her replacement at Lakeview is underway and will be announced at a future school board meeting.
