PTO News

Northwood School will be holding a Read-A-Thon in April! Read-A-Thons actually get your reader excited about reading and give friends and family the opportunity to encourage your child to read even more.

Our Read-A-Thon starts Monday, April 14, 2025. About one week before our Read-A-Thon starts we will send home instructions on how to activate your reader's personal page. This is where you will be able to view and record their progress.

We encourage you to activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/323831353937/1 and following the simple instructions.

We've chosen Read-A-Thon because it will not take much of your time, gives your child a reason to read and helps in the development of stronger reading skills.

Students who participate have a chance to win a $20 Amazon gift card just for participating! One $20 Amazon gift card will be awarded to the student with the top minutes read from each grade, and 2 $100 Amazon gift cards will be awarded to the two teachers with the highest average minutes read per student!

We hope EVERYONE participates.

Thanks so much,

Northwood School PTO

 8th Grade Mother's Day Fundraiser

Attention, families! This April, show your appreciation for Mother's Day while supporting our 8th-grade class! Starting April 1st, 8th-grade students will be selling gift cards from the local favorite, Cavarretta Gardens. Students will earn a generous percentage from each sale to help fund their upcoming trip and other exciting 8th-grade activities, so find an 8th-grader and purchase a gift card. Thank you for your support!

Northwood School Literary Magazine

Ms. Carloni is now accepting submissions for the spring literary magazine. Students may submit original poems, stories, essays, or other writing. Email Ms. Carloni (jcarloni@northwood.k12.nh.us) with any questions!

News from the Library

The Mini Maker club has wrapped up, and it was a great success again.

Thank you to all the staff members and families that sent in materials to be re-imagined and upcycled. Thank you also to our parent volunteer Lauren Gulla for all her help.

These students amaze me with their creativity.

Using cardboard boxes, plastic containers, paper and discarded craft supplies, they created tiny houses and dioramas.

Kids Heart Challenge

Hi School Families,

We hope you have been enjoying our school’s KHC so far! We are entering our final days, and challenge all families to Learn CPR, Share CPR, Save Lives!

The American Heart Association has extended our challenge deadline by one week! We received a very generous donation of gym towels printed in school colors with a nice message of support for Northwood Lakers Kids Heart Challenge. Many students have been selling these towels on their own, and that money has been credited to their own Kids Heart Challenge account. If you'd like to support the school's general fund, you may reach out to Ms. Murray to purchase a towel. (Check made payable to American Heart Association, cash, or Venmo). The funds raised that way will be divided evenly between all students who have signed up for Kids Heart Challenge but have not raised money by the new deadline of April 4th!

These towels will make a great addition to a sports bag, a school backpack, an emergency bag for the car, or your gym bag!

Towels are 1 for $10, or the tri-color bundle for $25 (they come in white, yellow, and blue!) Supplies are limited!

Northwood is currently 2nd in the state for Completed Finn’s Missions! Let’s get that TOP SPOT!!!!!

If you haven't had the chance to yet:

  1. Download the AHA Schools app for iPhone or Android to search for our school and sign your student up!
  2. Share your KHC Page via text and/or socials.
  3. Complete Finn’s Mission!

When you sign up or share your KHC Page, that brings awareness to heart disease, CPR, and stroke. Awareness leads to funding, and funding leads to hope.

Thanks for supporting this service-learning project!

~ Ms. Murray

School & Community Information

The NH Thunder Track and Field Program is currently taking registrations for the 2025 Track & Field season.  More information and online registration are available on our website:  www.nhthunder.com

Registrations will not be taken the first night of practice so please register ahead of time.

The program will begin Thursday, April 14th and run thru May 22nd (with no practice during April vacation the week of April 28th.)

The Track and Field program is open to boys and girls ages 5 through 8th Grade.

Practices will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:15-6:45pm with a track meet during the season. The meet will also be held at Coe Brown. Times will be subject to change due to High School meets and availability of CBNA athletes.

The Track & Field program is USATF certified.  This is a great opportunity to participate in any, and all, track and field events you may be interested in, such as shot put, javelin, long jump, discus, running events, and hurdles. Events will be chosen by the guidance of the coaches and athletes together.

~The track program only works if we have interested parents to volunteer to help with measuring, timing, and supervising the different age groups. No experience is necessary. The Coe Brown athletes also help to make this program a success.

We are excited to continue to build our NH Thunder running program, our emphasis is completely on fun and participation. We are looking forward to another great year.
