Northwood School Laker

February 17, 2023

From the Assistant Principal

Hello Northwood families! Since we are a few days removed from Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be a good opportunity to share all of the things I love about the NWS community.

  • I love our students! They are creative, enthusiastic and respectful and it is a joy to interact with them everyday. They are an amazing group of kids!
  • I love our paraprofessionals! They are the ones in the trenches, covering duties and providing amazing support to our students. We are lucky to have such a dedicated and talented group of folks working with our students.
  • I love our support staff! Our secretaries, guidance counselors, nurse, kitchen staff and custodians are kind, helpful and work incredibly hard each day to keep our kids safe, healthy and happy. Our school could not function without them!
  • I love the supportive parents and caregivers in this community who collaboratively work with teachers, administrators and counselors. I have connected with so many parents who have been extremely respectful in our interactions and who truly want to have a partnership with the school. Your interest and commitment you have for your child's well-being is truly appreciated.
  • I love the fact that our school board members are very supportive of our school and the needs of our kids while also taking into account the needs of the community. This is not an easy task, but they do so with a high level of professionalism and forethought.
  • And last, but certainly not least, I love our incredible faculty! Everyday they demonstrate great passion and enthusiasm in their classrooms. They care deeply about their students and work tirelessly to provide them with an outstanding education. The Northwood community is so lucky to have such an amazing group of educators!

I hope you all have a safe, happy, healthy and restful vacation!

- Mr. Drolet

READ ACROSS AMERICA WITH NORTHWOOD SCHOOL!

Dear Northwood Families,

Shhh...listen carefully, but don’t speak too loudly .... Coming up in a few weeks, we are looking for some "Mystery Readers'' to come into school and read to our students.  The Literacy Committee and Northwood School will be celebrating Read Across America Week from March 6th -10th.   If you, or someone you know, would be interested in being a "Mystery Reader,” please email your child's homeroomteacher to set up a day and time that works best for everyone.  Feel free to bring along a favorite story, or read one from the classroom library, and if you need help choosing one, please just ask.  Obviously, all books and stories need to be age appropriate, so if you have any questions, please reach out to any of the classroom teachers for clarification.  We look forward to enjoying new stories with our "surprise" guests in just a few weeks!  Thank you for your participation!

Students are invited to submit original writing to the literary magazine, which will come out at the end of the year. Students may email their poems, stories, plays, or essays to their classroom teacher or to Ms. Carloni.

News from Kindergarten

The Valentine spirt was in our classroom this week. The kids made special mailboxes to put all of our cards and gifts from friends.  We had a lot of fun participating in the Olympics and Book Buddies too. So much fun packed into this week!

Guest Teachers Needed

If you are interested in being a guest teacher (also known as a substitute teacher), please apply at this link. The pay is $100 a day and you get to work with great kids and great staff! Please contact Ms. Roy or Ms. Young with any questions.
