Safety Drills

Each year, New Hampshire schools are required to conduct a number of different types of drills to ensure preparedness for a variety of possible situations. Northwood School has a safety committee that meets regularly to review protocols and procedures, keep emergency plans updated, and plan the required drills.

In the fall, we conducted several evacuation/fire drills to ensure that students know how to leave the building during an emergency in an orderly fashion. During colder months, students and staff practice indoor safety drills such as Lockdown, Drop, Cover, and Hold, and Shelter in Place. We conducted a Drop, Cover, and Hold drill this morning that helps us prepare for what to do in the event of an earthquake. Everyone did a great job! We will conduct a few more drills in the next few weeks.

Parents often ask how they can support their children's success during drills. The most important thing to emphasize to kids is to stay calm, remain quiet, and listen to adult directions.

Have a wonderful weekend!

News from Kindergarten

The kindergarteners are having fun making nursery rhyme activities. The Little Bo Peeps made fun puppets to practice the rhyme. We are getting very excited for our show next week! Everyone is working so hard on their rhymes, songs, and good audience etiquette.

Northwood Olympics

Each year, Northwood School hosts our own version of the Olympics the week before February vacation. Please see the dress up themes below for February 17 - 21! Each day that you dress up and participate, you will earn points for your homeroom. Information for Friday’s colors will be communicated by your child’s homeroom teacher.

News from the Library

The 5th graders have been diligently working on creating Battleship games using Google Sheets. We also learned a little about the history of the game. Did you know that Battleship began as a pencil/paper game during WWI? Over the course of several weeks, students have practiced skills such as resizing columns and rows, using the Fill tool, changing the text size and colors, and writing conditional formatting rules. Today, we finally got to play our games!

Lost & Found

Lost and found is full! Please encourage your child to check it to see if he/she has any items to claim.

Hats, Scarves, & Mittens

Our school received a generous donation of knitted hats, scarves and mittens.  If your family could use some of these items, please email me and I will send some home with your child.

Thank you,
