From the Principal's Office
Our school-wide theme for November is Self-Awareness. Throughout the month, we will be helping students learn to recognize and name their feelings, understand how those feelings influence their actions, and develop a sense of gratitude for who they are. When students feel grounded and confident in themselves, they are better able to show curiosity, empathy, and respect toward others, core qualities of a Globally Aware Citizen in our Vision of the Graduate.
Students are engaging in lessons and conversations that support them in noticing their emotions, understanding how those emotions show up both in their bodies and their behavior, and practicing how to pause so they can respond with intention rather than react on impulse. We are also helping students appreciate their strengths, their identities, and the unique value they bring to our school community.
As we move into the Thanksgiving season, many of us take time to reflect on what we are grateful for. This month, our students and staff contributed to a schoolwide “Grateful Turkey” displayed in the cafeteria by writing something meaningful to them on a paper feather. The feathers now form a colorful display of appreciation, joy, and connection within our school.
We also recognize that this time of year carries different traditions and meanings for families. Some gather in large celebrations, others enjoy quieter moments at home, and some take time to reflect on the complex history behind the holiday. These varied perspectives offer a meaningful opportunity to broaden students’ global awareness and strengthen their understanding of the diverse experiences within our community. When we encourage students to reflect on who they are and what they value, we also help them grow into more curious, respectful, and empathetic learners.
We encourage families to continue this learning at home. Asking questions such as “What are you feeling today?”, “What’s one thing you appreciate about yourself right now?”, or “What’s something you learned about someone else this week?” can spark meaningful reflection and connection.
We appreciate our ongoing family and community partnerships and the many ways families contribute to our school community. As we enter this season of gratitude, we are thankful for the chance to learn and grow together!
Enjoy the weekend!
