How Teens Can Make Money!

Hi my name is Dane Mason and I will be sharing some of the ways that teens can make money. You don’t have to be sixteen or older to get a job. And your job doesn't have to be a real job like working at a fast-food restaurant. You can be thirteen and mow lawns. For example, you bike or walk to the house's lawn that you are going to mow and you usually get paid in cash.

You might be able to mow your grandmas, your neighbors or even maybe your parents' coworkers need someone to mow their lawn. Say you mowed two lawns and make $25 for each lawn. Mow both of those a week. Say both lawns combined take 4 hours. If you mow from June to the end of September, at the end of the summer you just made $850! That is saying you only did two lawns and you could do a lot more. You can also babysit. The average price to babysit one kid is $17 an hour (according to ziprecruiter.com).

So, let’s say the parents leave at 6:00pm and they say we will be home around 9:00pm. You just got to hang out and play with toys and kids for three hours and you just got paid $51 for doing that. Now you can also shovel and snow blow sidewalks and driveways in the winter. Home Advisor stated that the average company, to shovel up to 6 inches of snow, can cost $25 to $75.

Depending on how big the sidewalk and driveway. They say that this is why some people decide to hire local, such as teens, to shovel and snow blow. Say you're fourteen or older and you would rather work in a building. At fourteen you can work at Starbucks and McDonalds. Indeed.com reports McDonald’s average pay for a fourteen year old is $150 for a twelve hour week.

You can also get paid for Umpiring baseball. If you know how baseball is played you get to watch a game and get paid for it. So there are a lot of jobs that you can get paid for.

This list that I just gave today is not even close to all the ways that you can make money. Right now if you start saving up your money, you can buy a car at sixteen or maybe you have a car but want a better one or want to save up for an apartment when you turn eighteen.

Your family might take a trip and now you have money to spend on your trip. These are all possibilities but at least you know that you don’t have to wait until you’re 16 to buy something you want. You just got to go out there and start!

FYI
NORTHWOODS AROUND TOWN
Employee Spotlight - Faith S.

Faith started out as a part-time MSR right out of high school. She had been with the Floodwood Area Credit Union for 41 years before the merge with Northwoods Credit Union three years ago. Faith likes the idea of working as one whole team with Northwoods trying to serve as many members as possible.

When asked about what the day of an MSR Supervisor looks like, she had this to say:
“It can be very busy! From balancing or filling ATM’s to trying to keep all the machines and office running smoothly,”

Faith added, “Elaine and Robin’s great work ethic makes it easy to be a supervisor in the Floodwood office. We all work well together to help each other find solutions for our members.”

For Faith, each day is a fresh start to meet any challenges that may come her way, and the Northwoods SPICE values show up too when helping members daily.

“I try to form a more personal relationship with our members by getting to know them and their families through conversation when they are in the office or drive up.”

“Faith truly cares for our members and the Floodwood community. She goes out of her way to help them out with their financial needs. She is always willing to learn and take on any task that is asked of her. She has always been a great asset for the Floodwood Area Credit Union and we are lucky to have her now on our Northwoods team,” says Janell Rewitzer, Vice President of Branch Operations.

When not at work, Faith enjoys golfing with her husband, riding their side-by-side, and spending time with her combined six kids, 11 grandkids, four bonus grandkids, and their families!
