Carson Menke has been selected as the new student representative on the Norwalk CSD Board of Education. This initiative, launched by the district several years ago, created a special non-voting seat for a student representative on the Board of Directors. This role provides an important opportunity for students to have a voice in shaping educational policies. The student representative acts as an advisor to both the board and the administration, offering valuable insights and feedback on policies that directly impact the district's educational environment.
As Carson starts thinking about college and his future career, he views leadership as a key part of his life. He has held numerous leadership roles at Norwalk, including in cross country, band, student council, and the dance marathon. He believes this new role will help him continue to grow as a leader while making a positive difference for the school.
Carson has built strong connections with students across different activities and grade levels. He plans to use these connections to gather feedback and opinions from the student body, ensuring their voices are heard by the board. His experience as a cross country squad leader has taught him valuable lessons about leadership, such as how to balance personal relationships with guiding a team, especially when things don’t go as planned. This adaptability has helped him become an effective leader in various situations.
In addition to his leadership roles, Carson is a top student at Norwalk, taking advanced and college-level courses. He is dedicated to helping others succeed, often tutoring students in subjects like geometry, algebra 2, and calculus. Carson has also led community service projects, including organizing a Meals from the Heartland event that provided over 20,000 meals to those in need.
With his wide range of experiences and strong commitment to leadership, Carson is excited to represent his peers on the school board, sharing their perspectives and helping create positive changes for the school district.
Respectfully,
Shawn Holloway, Superintendent
