NOTE FROM DISTRICT OFFICE

NCSD: Committed to Every Student's Success

At Norwalk Community School District, we are driven by an ambitious academic goal: 100% of our students will either reach proficiency or demonstrate gap-closing growth. But this goal is more than just a benchmark—it's a mindset that reflects our unwavering belief in every teacher’s ability and every student's potential. Each student matters, and we celebrate both proficiency and the hard work behind exceeding expected growth.

High expectations for all students are central to increasing student achievement. We understand that success requires continuous improvement, and we are fully committed to doing better every day.

To achieve this goal, we are taking three big actions:

  1. Classroom Observations and Teacher Support: Leaders are learners that are actively getting into classrooms to observe instruction and provide teachers with feedback that is tied to a single, research-based framework. This ensures consistency, high-quality teaching, and ongoing development.
  2. Collaborative Teams: Teacher collaboration around grade level standards, analyzing student work, and discussing evidence based practices helps ensure that every student receives the support they need.
  3. Aligned Professional Learning: To maintain consistency and excellence in instruction, we are aligning professional learning across the district to one common framework. This creates a common language and shared understanding of what effective teaching looks like in Norwalk CSD.

High expectations for all students are at the heart of our approach, and we are committed to continuous improvement. Together, we are #growinglearnersandleaders.

Norwalk Middle School Uses Warrior Academy to Provide Essential Support for Students

Beth Ward, Norwalk Middle School Principal

At Norwalk Middle School, we focus on the 3Rs: Respect, Responsibility, and being Ready to Succeed. These principles form the foundation for our academic success and positive behaviors.

Warrior Academy meets during the 9th period every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, providing essential support for our students. Warrior Academy is not a study hall or time for homework completion; instead, it’s an engaging environment where students receive interventions or extensions tailored to grade-level standards. During this time, students can read, enhance their math skills, and participate in various school activities such as contests, visiting the Warrior Store, taking surveys, and attending assemblies.

Below are some graphics that capture the spirit and activities of Warrior Academy.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to foster a positive learning environment for our students. If you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to reach out. - Beth Ward
