Staff Spotlight
A Monthly Feature to Inform the Community about Outstanding Norwin Employees
This month, we are pleased to spotlight Miss Kaitlyn Fung. She teaches fourth grade at Stewartsville Elementary School.

What year did you begin working at Norwin?
I was fortunate to begin teaching full time in the Norwin School District in 2016 and was blessed to begin teaching 4th Grade at Stewartsville Elementary. Prior to 2016, I was a paraprofessional in one of our Learning Support classrooms and a long-term substitute in 4th Grade during the 2015-2016 school year where I enjoyed teaching at Stewartsville, Sunset Valley, and Hahntown Elementary throughout my yearlong experience.

What do you enjoy most about working at Norwin?
As a teacher, I feel blessed to be able to grow with my students, and I hope that I inspire them as much as they inspire me each day. I love getting to know my students’ families and building relationships with my students not only throughout our year together, but for years to come. Throughout our year together, I also have the pleasure of getting to know their younger siblings, and then after my students move up to Hillcrest, I enjoy hearing about how they’re doing from their siblings and seeing them out in the community as they grow.

What is one thing that working at Norwin has taught you?
During my experience here at Norwin, I have learned many lessons. However, the most valuable lesson that I have learned is the importance of creating a positive classroom culture where my students feel encouraged and empowered to grow as I strive to really get to know my students’ passions. I love building a classroom family with my students where we grow together and get to know one another for who we are individually. I have also learned the true value of creating a family amongst our teachers and staff. Knowing that we are all here for one another and support each other through our accomplishments, as well as challenging times, makes teaching at Stewartsville feel like home. Everyone’s positive outlook makes Stewartsville one of the most special places to teach!

What are your hobbies and passions outside of work?
When I am not teaching in my classroom, my hobbies include spending time with my family, coaching, and dancing. My family and I are very close, and we cherish all of the times we spend together whether we are enjoying a Steeler game together, bike riding at Little Boston, or playing baseball in the backyard. I also love coaching our Norwin Cheerleaders and sharing my passion for dance with them as we support our Norwin teams and express enthusiasm, pride, and excellence in all that we do!
