Update from Norwin School District
Superintendent Dr. Jeff Taylor
March 26, 2020
Dear Norwin School District Families and Members of the Community,

Today I am pleased to share with you information about our District’s Continuity of Education Plan that outlines how students will receive education throughout the duration of the mandatory school closure. As per our Continuity of Education Plan, the District will begin offering online instruction to all students on Monday, March 30, 2020.

In order to assist families with the transition to online instruction, the District has prepared a number of resources that were created by our teachers and administration. Please find the list of resources below.
New Site for Families: Online Learning Resources

As part of the District’s Continuity of Education Plan, a Google Site titled  Online Learning Resources for Families   has been created as a comprehensive site to help families prepare for online learning. Expectations, links and resources have been carefully selected to make the site both useful and easy to navigate. The site will continue to be updated regularly.
Google Classroom

Google Classroom has been selected as our District's online instructional platform for online learning. Between now and Monday, March 30 th , our teachers will send students information about how to join the Google Classrooms that have been created.

Joining a Google Classroom

Teachers will email students and/or families information about joining a Google Classroom using a Class Code. Please see the grade-specific directions below for how students will receive this information from their teacher(s).
Grades K-1
  • Each family will receive an email from the classroom teacher which includes the student’s Gmail account information and Google Classroom invitation.
  • Students in K-1 will need assistance logging into their Gmail account for the first time.
Grades 2-4
  • Students will receive individual Google Classroom invitations from each of their respective teachers through their Norwin Gmail account ([email protected]).
  • Students will receive an email from their homeroom teacher with information regarding Google Classrooms for their Itinerant/Specials courses.
  • Students should be monitoring this account on a regular basis to prepare for online learning beginning Monday, March 30, 2020.
  • Students in grades 2-4 have experience logging into their Gmail account to check for messages. If students are unsure of their login or password, parents should email the classroom teacher for this information.
Grades 5-6
  • Students will receive individual Google Classroom invitations from each of their respective teachers through their Norwin Gmail account ([email protected]).
  • Students should be monitoring this account on a regular basis to prepare for online learning beginning Monday, March 30, 2020.
  • In addition, the same information will be provided in a message posted on Skyward and emailed to parents.
Grades 7-12
  • Students will receive individual Google Classroom invitations from each of their respective teachers through their Norwin Gmail account ([email protected]).
  • Students should be monitoring this account on a regular basis to prepare for online learning beginning Monday, March 30, 2020.
Norwin School District Daily Attendance Form

Beginning on March 30, 2020, and continuing each day during online instruction, families will be asked to complete a daily attendance form for each child in the family. The link to the attendance form will be included on the STREAM on each Google Classroom and can also be found  here . We appreciate your assistance in completing this form for each child daily so that attendance can be entered and maintained into Skyward.
Together We Can!

This is a new way of learning for us all, and we will work with you to help make this a successful experience. Naturally, with any new initiative, there may be questions from students and parents. Some terminology and procedures may seem new and unfamiliar, but please be assured that this initial difficulty will pass with practice. Please familiarize yourself with the Google Site, especially the Resources Page, which provides contact information for various questions about online instruction.

On behalf of the Norwin School District, thank you for the flexibility that you and your children are demonstrating throughout this shutdown and challenging time. Additionally, I would also like to thank you for your attentiveness to these District emails.

We look forward to working with you and your children once again in order to provide our students with a continuity of education beginning on Monday, March 30 th Together We Can!

Stay safe, healthy, and #NorwinStrong.

Best regards,

Dr. Jeff Taylor
Superintendent
