Greetings!

This week we're presenting University Gallery at UMass Lowell, Bruce Museum and Fairfield University Art Museum.

This week's artists see the big in the little, they see the important in the mundane. Through their work in photography, painting, sculpture, "sockography" and more, they examine the everyday world and familiar environments to create a broader picture of the world we all inhabit.

University Gallery at UMass Lowell presents —graphies, the work of nine artists who are members of the Radius Collective, "a creative body of artists and designers focused on critical discourse around identity, place, and connection." This show allows artists to record and represent "their personal —graphy, exposing a memory, observation, or daily experience that calls for a closer look." These graphies take the form of the familiar photography - like James Barkley's Calm in the storm (pictured above) - topography, geography as well as the more experimental like Sarah Cadigan-Fried's "sockography" or "meditations on a sock" where the artist examines the essence of a sock through textile work. An artist talk will be held on Thursday, Jan. 30 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. with a reception following until 6 p.m. The gallery is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. University Gallery at UMass Lowell is located at 870 Broadway Street, Lowell, MA. Bruce Museum presents Kenji Nakahashi: Strange Beauty, a show that reflects upon and examines the legacy of photographer Kenji Nakahashi whose conceptual and experimental street photography took a new look at the everyday, often placing familiar objects into surreal situations. "Relying on absurdity, visual and textual puns, and unusual juxtapositions, his enigmatic images encourage viewers to contemplate the strange and surprisingly beautiful aspects of everyday life anew," according to a curatorial statement. This exhibit also celebrates a recent gift to the Bruce Museum's collection. The gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last admission is at 4:30 p.m. Reservations are recommended but not required. Bruce Museum is located at 1 Museum Drive

Greenwich, CT. For more information, please visit here.

Fairfield University Art Museum presents To See This Place: Awakening to Our Common Home a show featuring three artists - Athena LaTocha, Mary Mattingly, and Tyler Rai - whose work "resonates with the theme" of two documents written by Pope Francis that calls for a response to climate change. With works of photography, sculpture, video and painting the artists draw on themes "critiquing political and economic systems that perpetuate destructive self-interest and drawing attention to people who have been marginalized and historically excluded or harmed," according to a curatorial statement. The gallery is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fairfield University Art Museum is located at 200 Barlow Road, Fairfield, CT.
