Jason Selinger receives the 2023 Friend of Advanced Provider Award
During APP week, the 2023 Friend of Advanced Practice Provider recognition was awarded to Jason Selinger, Vice President for UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals Ambulatory Services. In this role as VP and his previous role as Director of Children’s Ambulatory Services, Jason has been a strong ally for pediatric advanced practice providers, supporting the implementation of an APP organizational structure within BCH San Francisco and advocating for APPs to practice to the top of their scope. He has also been a valued mentor to APP managers, promoted APP professional development, and supported APP inclusion at leadership meetings. Jason, thank you for all you do for UCSF APPs! Read more.

Transition to Practice Fellowship in the Emergency Department
Thomas Dodsworth, NP and Ryan Wilson, PA were instrumental to help start the ED APP Transition to Practice Fellowship which will begin in January 2024. As co-clinical directors they will be the lead preceptors and will be designing the curriculum for the program. Kudos Thomas and Ryan for helping to further APP education at UCSF. Anne Tucker, PA is named as the first 2024 ED APP Transition to Practice Fellow. She studied at Duke University Physician Assistant Program where she participated in a global health rotation in Machame, Tanzania and founded Duke’s PA Wilderness Medicine Student Interest Group. Lean Champion: Another APP Joins the Ranks
Bethany Geleris, CPNP furthers her leadership and career development by successfully completing the six-session Lean Champion training. Course objectives are developing competency in continuous improvement (CI), implementation science and inter-professional leadership, practice and apply coaching and change management skills to develop teammates and learners and finally to lead and impact prioritized improvement efforts to achieve UCSF Health System True North Goals. Lean and CI is a method for identifying opportunities for streamlining work, reducing waste and increasing productivity. Bethany currently practices in pediatric urology (east bay); she completed her DNP at UCSF 2021, MSN at University of Pennsylvania and is the 2023-2024 Chair of the APP Advisory Board.

Advanced Heart Failure Speaker
The UCSF Update on Heart Failure Therapies 2023 was held in Sonoma September 7-9, 2023. Simran Grewal, NP a team member in the Advanced Heart Failure Comprehensive Care Center presented on “Mama’s Broken Heart: Postpartum Cardiomyopathy” and “Better Together: Multidisciplinary Heart Transplant Panel” Read more.

APP Contributes To The Literature
Eve Rorison, NP in the Craniofacial Center authored a paper entitled "Opioid-free Pain Management after Cleft Lip Repair". The authors showed that Nonopioid postoperative pain management was more effective than opioids for pain management in infants after cleft lip repair, as evidenced by FLACC scores and increased volume of the first oral feed. The UC Learning module Advanced Practice Provider Billing and Coding Overview is due for completion by 5pm on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. The module will take 60-90 minutes to complete and is mandatory for UCSF and BCH Oakland CNMs, NPs, and PAs. Follow this link to the module. CRNAs do not need to complete the module.

End of State-Funded Travel Ban
On September 9, Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 447 to end the ban on state-funded travel to the 24 states listed on the California Attorney General website (AB 1887) effective immediately. All travel restrictions to those states have now been lifted. Read more

This is a 9-month program March 2024 through November 2024 (zoom and in person) held at the UCSF Center for Nursing Excellence 2001 The Embarcadero, the 1st Wednesday of every month from 8:30-430pm. This program leverages concepts of decision-making, implementation science and evaluation of change. It includes participation in 55 hours of graduate level EBP didatic education. For more info.
