Successful Notaries work best when they are organized and follow a process. There's no such thing as over documenting because when you look back on a signing that you may require follow-up - you'll feel good about your record keeping.

10 Must-haves to keep your journal entries organized:
  1. The time and date when the signer appeared before you.
  2. The kind of notarization you performed, e.g. verification by oath, acknowledgment, etc.
  3. The place where the notarization was done.
  4. The title and date of the document involved in the notarization.
  5. The name and address of the signer and witnesses where applicable.
  6. The mode of identification of each signer, e.g. type of ID, credible witnesses, etc.
  7. The amount of money (if any) collected for the notarization.
  8. The signature of the signers.
  9. The right thumbprint of each signer.
  10. Any other vital information or remarks.
