Hello Church Family,
The order was given by Governor Polis yesterday that all "non-essential" people were to stay at home. I think we all understand the term "non-essential" in the context in which it was stated. But I want to use the term in a different context for a moment.
In the family of God, there are no "non-essentials!" Every person matters in the family. You are important to the mission we have all been called to execute. The mission of being a witness for Jesus as we go through life. I have been referring to this mission found in Acts 1:8 as
RUNNING THE PLAY
. The play has been called and we are tasked with going out and executing the play everyday.
Now, the question before us is... HOW am I to be a witness for Jesus when I am ordered to stay at home? I would like to offer a few suggestions.
- Next time you are getting ready to go to the grocery store, try this... think of a person who would be blessed by one bag of groceries. Before you leave the house, get a piece of paper and write a short note of appreciation for that person and their friendship. Write out a verse of Scripture and sign your name. Now, what items would you put in that one bag? Their kids might enjoy some snacks. Maybe some fresh veggies or fruit or a half gallon of milk. Be thoughtful of the person or family. On your way home, stop by their house and set the bag on the front porch. On your way home, send them a text and let them know of the gift on their porch.
- Open up your contacts on your phone and send a text message to 3 people that you haven't talked to in a while. Let them know you are thinking of them and praying for them. Encourage them to let you know if there is anything specific they would like you to pray for. The main point is to communicate care.
These are just 2 simple ways we can "
RUN THE PLAY
" while in these unique days.
Keep your eyes on the ball. Don't get distracted by the "stay-at-home" order. I believe God is doing something great in and through his church in such a time as this.
: send me an email of creative and innovative ways that we can
RUN THE PLAY
in these extraordinary times. I am looking for strategies for individuals and the church. Let your creative minds think freely. I will keep you updated on the feedback that I receive.
