Dear Colleagues,
Independence Day is a special day for us all, but it seems to hold even greater significance for those of us who work with military families. It’s impossible not to be reminded that it’s their service and their sacrifices that help to keep our nation free. I know that you’re as proud as I am to be able to work in support of the children of these courageous men and women.
Thank you for your participation in our strategic planning process. Your input will help to complete the plan, which we will do during the Annual Business Meeting this October in Colorado Springs. Each standing committee will have specific tactics assigned to it for finalization during its meeting. With that complete, our 2019-2022 Strategic Plan will be ready to implement.
The Executive Committee (EXCOM) has created a
National Guard and Reserve Task Force
(NGRTF) to study the issue of whether the children of members of the Reserve Components have the same transitional issues based on their parents’ military service as do the children of active duty service members. The NGRTF is chaired by Commissioner Kathy Berg (HI) and members include: Darcy Benway (IL); Davina French (ND); Brain Halstead (NE); Ben Rasmussen (UT); Hal Stearns (MT); and
Rosemarie Kraeger (RI), the liaison to the EXCOM
. The NGRTF will hold an organizational meeting during the next few weeks to begin its work. A preliminary report is due to the EXCOM by April 2020 with a final report by July 31, 2020. The NGRTF will present their final report at the 2020 Annual Business Meeting.
Finally, please remember to submit your end of year reports and documents to the National Office. The deadline for submittals was June 30th.
Should you have questions or concerns, please call or e-mail me. You all have my contact information, so please let me know if I can assist in any way. Have a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday - and thank you for your service to our military families.
Respectfully,
John I. “Don” Kaminar
Chairman (AR)
