The Devil is Always in the Details
At The Arc, we continually think about what we need to do on behalf of, or share with, our constituency - which is YOU! The past several days were no different as we tried to re-boot the passage of Nicky's Law, which would establish an Abuse Registry, during the legislature's informal session. Thank goodness for stakeholders who are passionate about this essential bill to protect people with disabilities.  I'm glad to see an ongoing dialogue regarding passage of this bill and we hope that the House will join the Senate shortly in its passage. The administration continues to signal its full support.

Another emerging issue for The Arc over the past few years has been the workforce crisis both for providers and in home care for families and individuals. Over the past few months, our Steering Committee on Disability Policy and Advocacy has been working on a plan to address this issue. Imagine salary averages between $21,500 to $25,300 (most below $14 per hour). How do these employees pay for the basic one bedroom apartment at $1,123 per month (2015 statistic)? Continue reading.

MassHealth member input needed on new surveys under development
Looking for MassHealth members who use behavioral health (BH) or Long Term Services and Supports (LTSS) services, and/or their caregivers, to participate in an hour long phone interview. In the interview, members will give input on a new survey that measures patient experiences of receiving BH or LTSS services.  Individuals will receive $30 for their participation. August 15 deadline approaching for registration for State Primary
Self-advocates at Vinfen registering to vote
The deadline to register to vote in the Massachusetts State Primary Election is right around the corner. All voter registrations must be completed by next Wednesday, August 15 if you wish to vote in the State Primary on Tuesday, September 4. Nicky's Law featured on Boston Herald Radio
On Friday, August 3, Director of Government Affairs Maura Sullivan appeared on Boston Herald Radio, along with Senator Mike Moore, to discuss the latest news about Nicky's Law.

State House News Service also covered the interview, highlighting The Arc's hopeful outlook on Nicky's Law's chances in an informal session in the coming months.
