Welcome To The Hood

Let's say "hello" and "welcome" to our new Thornwood Drive residents.

Kendrick & Rachel Wittman

Notes From The President

September 9, 2025 Board Meeting

The large cactus in the southwest corner of the Common space was severely damaged by the dust storm of August 25.  Karen thanked Dan Fleming for disposing of the east half of the cactus and his efforts to save the remainder.  We will see if this is successful.

The May minutes were presented by Susan.  Wayne presented the August financials and noted that there was nothing unusual in the May – July financials.  All documents were approved.

Under Committee Reports, Kay DeBus and Wallie Sweeney were thanked for a successful July 4th BBQ & Fireworks.  Gus reported that the contractor for the non-slip floors will return in late September.  Ralph discussed Xeriscaping parts of the Common area.  Per concerns, he will do further research.  A quote for a gas hot water heater for the shower and bathrooms was brought up.  Once the Treasurer indicates there is adequate funding, the Board will vote on the project.

Under Old Business, the Coolidge St.-Fountain entrance is an important topic to our residents.  On June 10, a meeting was held with Villa Monterey (VM) Units 3, 4, & 5 and the City.  We learned from the City that, since VM2 is the ‘owner’ of the Fountain entrance, no changes can be made without their approval.  In the meantime, the City responded to a homeowner complaint re: the Fountain on Sept. 4.  VM2 was issued a citation that they are responding to.

Under New Business, the City is reissuing garbage & recycle bins.  A meeting with VM3 residents will be held to communicate details.  This will include the City, if possible.  Marijuana smoke/use in the Pool area is a divisive topic.  Twice this year, the odor from marijuana smoke has prevented pool / spa use.  There was discussion re: whether marijuana is legal within an HOA’s common area.  The Board will closely review the legal side of this.

Karen will secure a BBQ cover and pool umbrellas.

Our insurance agent / rep reviewed the new infrared heaters and the Bocce ball court.  All good with State Farm without any extra charges.

President, VM III Board of Directors

We're beginning to experience a break from Arizona's summer heat; and with that comes more time outdoors. So don't forget that VM III hosts Finally Friday (FF) on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month.

Grab your favorite beverage and join neighbors and friends at the ramada for great conversation and camaraderie.

Hope to see you there.
