Notes From The President

May 12, 2026

Meeting notes & since then

Financial and Minutes for April were approved.

Jackie Moran reported the Cinco de Mayo event was a huge success with 49 attending. The lovely decorations and tasty food were a big success; the beer and margaritas were a close second. Thank you, Jackie, for your leadership!

Thanks to Frank for capturing the authentic moments! His slide show is posted on our home page: https://villamonterey3.org/

The contractor completed the hot water installation -- for the bathrooms and shower -- during the meeting. Patty G was quite happy the following morning. The West Wall Repair/Paint was completed on May 22. Thanks to Ralph for seeing this through. See the short article, below, re: Non-slip Floors.

Elizabeth Rehling, Neighborhood Watch (NW), provided some detail re: the May 6 shootings. It was noted that there is no good/easy way to get updates while the event is "in progress." The apps Citizen & Signal were noted. She announced that Stephen Farthing has joined NW. Although he lives on Thornwood, he will 'cover' Miller Ave.

For Old Business, Karen & Ralph continue work forming the Coolidge Circle group. Unit 4 has not accepted a reduction in costs from 20% to 13% but has provided a lower cost offer.

Under New Business, a resident was given a 'Courtesy Notice' (warning of a fine) for a carport installation of a whole-house water filtration system. On May 14, the Board updated the 'Notice' to request the resident have the City, along with Historic Preservation, inspect and approve the installation. Ralph noted that VM3 has other similar filtration systems installed.

Non-Slip Floors for the Bathrooms

Check out the bathrooms. Our handyman, Chris Willits successfully applied the non-slip surface recommended by our own Larry Mithelman. The Board appreciates your patience on this.

Thornwood Gate - Repair

Our handyman, Chris, also improved the Thornwood and Highland Gates on Friday with handles that will allow for smooth entry.

Yard Sale - Nov. 7th 8:00am - 2:00pm

At the May meeting, the Board approved a Yard Sale for this date & time. Our Villa Monterey neighbors (Units 2, 4, & 5) are participating that day, as well.

File & Games Closet Cleaned Out

Are you aware there is a closet just south of the Library? It is used to store Holiday decorations, table cloths, silverware, and other items used for our get-togethers in the Ramada. Also, there are Board files from the beginning of VM3 (1963) to now.

Thanks to Donna Baldwin, Karen Fleming, and Eugenie Rovai for emptying, organizing, and removing unneeded contents. And, then, restocking. Painting was done, with care, by Dale Freese. Susan Platner is scheduled to go through the files and destroy unneeded items.

This will make it easier to locate supplies or host an event since contents are now clearly labeled.
