Board Meeting

Four solar lights are installed at the bocce ball court. Karen Fleming gave a special thank you to Gus Meyers, who drilled holes for each light. The first hole took over 3 hours. After a drill rental, the remaining three took under 20 minutes. VM III bocce players have given the lights, which Ralph Whitney & Gus Meyers found online, very high reviews.

Susan Platner presented the September minutes. Wayne DeBus presented the September financials. Both documents were approved.

Under Committee Reports, Jackie Moran gave some details regarding the upcoming Halloween party. This includes a punch with liquor nearby, if desired, a photo booth from 5:00 – 6:00, and a costume contest with three winners. Ralph Whitney provided an update on capital projects – non-slip ramada/bathroom floors, bocce ball lights, and west wall xeriscape. There was a discussion on how much xeriscape to install along the west wall. The Board voted to xeriscape a 6-foot wide border at a cost of $2,200.

For future board members, Wayne DeBus announced that he will seek

re-election to the board for what may be a shortened (one to two-year) term. He asks for an apprentice/back-up for his work as treasurer. John Baughn will not seek re-election. However, John is willing to serve on the Historic Preservation Committee. Note: He will not head the Historic Preservation Committee, as the lead must be a board member.

Under Old Business, Karen reported that we have garbage/recycle bin orders from 61% (76 people) of the residents. She described a glitch in the system where some orders did not get generated. This was communicated via a Blast on October 15. Elizabeth Rehling volunteered to help gather orders. John Baughn described the Fidelity Bond and its impact. The board voted to accept the $100K Bond at a cost of $348.00/year. Regarding tobacco/marijuana use, Ralph Whitney explained that marijuana use is not permitted in the common area per state law. The board voted not to allow tobacco use in the common area. Signs will be made to reflect this.

Under New Business, a homeowner suggested a group purchase of sump pumps. At least two people present wish to participate. If you are interested (no obligation), please contact Karen Fleming. If there is enough interest, she will look for a project manager. Donna Baldwin volunteered to update social media with garage sale info.

The Homeowners Open Forum included a discussion of homes where the owner has passed away. The board will be diligent to get a “change of ownership” form when this occurs. The idea is that we can contact the remaining resident(s) and/or emergency contact, via the revised roster, if necessary.
