Principal's Corner

Dear Parents,

It's hard to believe we're halfway through the first week of February. This is a busy time of year and your children are working hard. Progress reports were emailed out to you all earlier today-please review with your child and continue making goals for this 3rd quarter.

Congratulations to those students who received the Virtue of the Month award today after mass. Thank you to the parents who were able to join us today-please know you're always welcome.

Gala is right around the corner on Feb. 23rd-please RSVP using the link in your invitation or in the link below in the Development Section. This is always a fun event so I hope all of you can make it!

Please also mark your calendars for Feb. 28th for our Fine Arts Night. More details will be sent out soon as it gets closer.

Good luck to our A Boys Basketball team as they play Mt. Sacred Heart at 8:00 tonight in the playoffs tonight at St. Luke's.

Friendly Reminder From the Clinic

All medications require a medication permission form to be filled out by the physician and signed by the parent. As a reminder, students may not carry any over the counter or prescription medications unless it is a life saving medication such as an inhaler. Please see the student handbook for more info.

During reenrollment, parents PLEASE update the medical section for their child/ren. This includes any new diagnosis and any new medications (of which the clinic should always be notified at the time). Should any changes occur AFTER you complete packet, please take the following steps so that Nurse Gladys gets updated:

In addition, given that things change (i.e. new allergies or conditions) during the year, parents will be able to fill out a web form for any subsequent changes to the medical aspect (i.e. allergies, conditions, etc…). You can find this form by taking the following steps:
  • Log into Parents Web, click Web Forms under School Information
  • Select Family Demographic Form
  • Click Student Medical Form
Re-Enrollment & New Applications for 2019-2020

The re-enrollment packets for the 2019-2020 school year are available in ParentsWeb. As a reminder, i n an effort to streamline our re-enrollment process, we are implementing a new policy---continuous enrollment where your child is automatically re-enrolled for the following school year unless you inform us by a specific date that your child will not be returning.

Unless a parent/guardian informs us in writing that their child is not returning by Friday, February 15, 2019, all family FACTS tuition accounts will be charged the $160 re-enrollment fee (per student) on Monday, February 18, 2019 .  Please note this re-enrollment fee is non-refundable . If you have any concerns about timing of this charge or need to request special arrangements, please reach out to Mary Delaney.

To access your child's/children's enrollment packet, follow these steps: 1) Log into ParentsWeb, 2) Click on Apply/Enroll, then
Enrollment/Reenrollment.

New Applications Available Now
In addition, we have made the 2019-20 application available. Current families have priority followed by Holy Spirit parishioners then new families. To access, click here.

Refer-A-Friend Program
You, our HSCS parents, are our biggest cheerleaders each year as we enroll new students.  So many of our new families mention family friends who’ve referred them to Holy Spirit, and for that, we are so thankful!

Therefore, we hope you’ll enjoy our new referral program as we enter the 2019-2020 school year; THANK YOU for sharing our school and the amazing accomplishments of our students & teachers with your friends.  We look forward to sharing our appreciation with you!
Tithing Obligation

With there being only a few months remaining in the 2018-19 school year, we wanted to remind all families of the tithing obligation that allows you to continue receiving in-parish tuition. Per page 41 of the Parent/Student Handbook:

I n-Parish Tuition Rates
Families must be registered members of Holy Spirit Church and be tithing a minimum of $50/month for a 12 month period to quality for this rate. New families must register and begin tithing a minimum of $50 per month from the point of entry. Parish status will be determined for current students based on the previous 12 month contributions. Therefore, a minimum of $600 must be in your family parish account by June (for the previous 12 months) for a family to qualify for "In Parish Tuition" for the upcoming year. Otherwise, "Out of Parish" rates will apply. Please note tithing must be accountable by the Parish Business Office in order to keep "In Parish Tuition." Therefore, checks, tithing envelopes or credit card payments should be used.

If you have any questions about your tithing account balance, feel free to reach out to Sylvia Frei by phone, 210-341-1395 or email: SFrei@holyspiritsa.org.

for the Ronald McDonald Houses in San Antonio!

The campaign will run until February 8, 2019
25¢ per small Paper Heart
$2 per large Paper Heart
NJHS Members will be selling hearts in your classrooms!

You may decorate the “Heart” and return it to NJHS Members.
Your “Heart” will be on display at the school!
Buy some for your friends, family members and neighbors!

From RMH: “There are many ways to serve your community and can there be a better way to reach that goal than to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Antonio? They provide a home, not just a room, to critically ill children and their families. The three San Antonio houses have 56 rooms in total and are supported by volunteer efforts and generous donations. And the fourth house, scheduled to open in January 2019, will have 21 rooms including a transplant wing, because the need is so great. Will you find it in your heart to share your love, your time, your talents, and your resources?”
Catholic Schools Week Events

Thank you to all the volunteers and our Parent Events Committee (DeAnna Estrada, Stephanie Mendoza, Katherine Pedraza and Margaret Legault) who helped make our Catholic Schools Week a success! Last Thursday, we enjoyed the 8th graders "taking over" for the day. Thank you Mrs. Herring and Coach Littlefield for coordinating. Friday was Student Appreciation Day which was filled with a morning assembly including visits from various high schools, our own HSCS Cheer capped off with a visit from the Spurs Coyote. The rest of the day our students enjoyed games, Mad Scientist, animal education, ice cream treats before ending the day with a school-wide Bingo with their buddies. Last, but not least, our faculty and staff entertained the kids once more with a dance. Thank you Mrs. Norma Rodriguez for choreographing!
