Clarksville Presbyterian Church
Friday Notes and Reminders
Worship Sunday Morning

  • Men's Bible Study at 9:30 a.m.
  • Sunday School at 10:00 a.m.
  • Worship at 11:00 a.m.

The scripture for Sunday is Luke 18:1-8 Jesus' lesson on the need to pray always and not to lose heart, the Parable of the Widow and the Unjust Judge.
We need to be careful.
I have learned from friends and family in New Hope Presbytery in NC that scammers have recently been targeting churches--or to be more accurate--sending out messages seemingly from the pastor seeking some sort of assistance.

Andy James, Associate Pastor for Small Church Ministries and Technology in New Hope Presbytery has written an excellent article about what to look for and how to respond if you indeed receive one of these scams. I have included a link to the article here and recommend you take a look.

And I can certify that this is a real concern. My sister received a very convincing request from "her pastor" that took some time to figure out! If you receive a message from me or Maureen that doesn't look right, it probably isn't. Please let us know.
The Bible and Handel's Messiah
Wednesdays, beginning October 23 at 11:00 a.m.

Prepare for Advent with Hallelujah , a Kerygma study for both the music lover and the biblical seeker, exploring the scriptural texts of Handel's  Messiah.

Hallelujah provides four sessions on the Advent texts and six sessions on the Lenten texts. This fall we will focus on the Advent texts, concluding on Wednesday, November 20.

We will cap off our study by attending a performance of Messiah by The Commonwealth Chorale, directed by our very own Minister of Music, Carol Henderson, 3:00 p.m., on December 8, 2019 at Farmville Methodist Church.

Please join us for what we hope will prove to be an insightful study and extraordinary musical experience.
WinGS to MacCallum More Gardens

Join the women of WinGS on Thursday, October 24, 2019 for lunch and a tour of the MacCallum More Gardens in Chase City. Please contact Donna Pool for more details.
Church Clean-up Day on October 26
It's time to get ready for winter!

The Property Committee needs extra sets of hands to pitch in and help with a general church clean-up. We will be trimming and pruning and spreading pine needles on the beds. Many hands make light work so please come to the church for a light breakfast at 8. We will plan to get to work at 9.
New Member Class
October 29 and November 3, 2019

Rev. Goard will conduct a new member class for individuals interested in joining Clarksville Presbyterian Church in her home at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29.

New members will be received by the Session at a special meeting on Sunday, November 3 at 9:00 a.m. and presented to the congregation during worship at 11.

If you are interested in formalizing your membership within the CPC family, please do not hesitate to contact Annette or one of the elders.
Advent Devotionals
We are putting together the Advent Booklet, and that means it's time to think about what you may wish to contribute. Short essays, meaningful poems or lyrics, and artwork are all wonderful items for CPC’s Advent Devotional Booklet.

Please contact Jill Allen with any questions you may have or to submit your offerings.
