Please join us at Mason next week for extraordinary student concerts. We are pleased to feature the Big Band Showdown (ticketed event) this upcoming Monday, March 28 at 8pm in our Center for the Arts with performances by the Mason Jazz Ensemble, the Mason Jazz Workshop, and the Loudoun Jazz Ensemble. We are proud to present two free chamber concerts next Wednesday March 30 with our Mason Brass Chamber Ensembles at 12:30pm and our Woodwind Chamber Ensembles at 8pm. We are excited to present the Mason Percussion Ensemble and New Sound Collective in a free concert featuring contemporary chamber works next Thursday March 31 at 8pm.

Mark your calendars for GMU Tuba Euphonium Ensemble Concert at the Hylton Recital Hall on Saturday April 2nd at 2pm and the Mason Jazz Guitar/Vocal Night at Epicure Cafe on April 2nd at 7pm. Purchase your tickets now for the George Mason University Chorale Broadway Showcase Night on Saturday, April 9th at 8pm at Hylton's Merchant Hall.

In addition, we have string masterclasses today (Friday) at 12:30pm with guest artists Edgar Meyer, bassist, and the Scottish Ensemble. This Sunday, March 27 at 10am we are presenting a Tuba Masterclass, Clinic, and Recital with Beth Mitchell and Avital Handler (registration is required). Please take note of the outstanding Mason student degree recitals (also presented via livestream) in the upcoming weeks. Join us for a masterclass this Friday, March 25th at 12:30-1:20pm with renowned artists Edgar Meyer, bass soloist, and Jonathan Morton, Artistic Director of The Scottish Ensemble. Meyer will coach the Low Strings Masterclass in the Choral Room (PAB A323) while Morton coaches the Upper Strings Masterclass in the deLaski Rehearsal Hall (PAB 3001). Come learn valuable tips and tricks from these professional string players as they give constructive feedback to Mason's string students!

International tuba professionals Beth Mitchell and Avital Handler present a masterclass, clinic, and recital at George Mason University during their tour across Israel and the United States. The GMU Tuba Euphonium Ensemble will also perform, as will GMU low brass faculty Dr. David Porter (tuba) and Dr. Mark Jenkins (euphonium). Learn more here.
Masterclass: Randy Campora, Trombone

Randy Campora, bass trombonist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, will visit George Mason University to give a masterclass to the School of Music brass students. He currently teaches bass trombone at the Peabody Conservatory, and has appeared as a performer and masterclass clinician at the International Trombone Workshop and the Eastern Trombone Workshop. Campora has had private lessons with some of his favorite brass players, including Arnold Jacobs, Charles Vernon, and Joseph Alessi.

Mason Music was well represented at the American String Teachers Association Conference this past week! Nine Mason students attended and assisted Dr. June Huang, Director of Strings, with a presentation on teaching communication skills through chamber music. They performed a piece called Spheres of Influence by Ching-chu Hu.
