We hope you will join us for a thrilling Mason Symphony Orchestra and University Choirs concert this Sunday (May 8) at 7 pm in our beautiful Center for the Arts. Three student soloists are featured as winners of the annual concerto/aria competition, including Eduardo Fajardo (flute), Madeline Manaker (soprano), and Ethan Walter (violin).
We are also pleased to celebrate our Friends of Music at Mason Honoree of the Year, Barbara Jacksier, at this Sunday evening's special concert festivities.
We are featuring exceptional student artists in the Dewberry School of Music Honors Recital on Sunday, May 15 at 3 pm in Harris Theater. Outstanding instrumentalists, singers, and pianists were chosen via audition for this prestigious Honors Recital performance.
Please join us for our many student degree recitals (also live-streamed to our audiences) and chamber music performances. We look forward to sharing beautiful music with you as we celebrate Mason's marvelous students from the Dewberry School of Music!
We want to thank, honor, and celebrate three wonderful faculty members who are retiring or moving out of the area after this Spring 2022 term. We are indebted to these amazing faculty members for their contributions to our Mason School of Music for a combined total of 75 years of service! Mason Symphony Orchestra
with Concerto Soloists
and University Choirs
Sunday, May 8, 7pm
Join the Dewberry School of Music for its spring finale concert highlighting the Mason Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Soo Han and the University Choirs under the direction of Dr. Lisa Billingham.
This concert features solo works performed by three student winners of the Mason Symphony Concerto Competition: Madeline Manaker (soprano), Eduardo Fajardo (flute), and Ethan Walter (violin).
The orchestra's finale will be the thrilling final two movements of Stravinsky's "The Firebird Suite (1919)". The University Choirs will finish the concert with a beautiful arrangement of "Let There Be Peace on Earth" - audience sing-a-long encouraged!

Prof. Mark Camphouse, Director of Concert Bands; Composition & Conducting
Congratulations to Prof. Mark Camphouse on his upcoming retirement! This academic year is Professor Camphouse’s 44th year of full-time teaching in higher education. In 2006, Professor Camphouse joined our faculty of George Mason University where he has served with distinction as Director of Concert Bands and conductor of the wind symphony. Additionally, Prof. Camphouse has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in composition, conducting, orchestration, and analysis at Mason. We recognize the extraordinary impact of Mark Camphouse on our music profession--as a leading composer, conductor, and educator.

Prof. Glen McCarthy,
Class Guitar Adjunct Faculty
Congratulations to Prof. Glen McCarthy on his upcoming retirement! He has taught class guitar at Mason since 1991--a total of 31 years! Prof. McCarthy's lifetime of teaching, artistry, and service to our beloved music education profession are deeply valued and appreciated. He is the past chair of the NAfME Council for Guitar Education, the past chair of the ASTA Guitar-in-the-Schools Committee and a co-chair and clinician for Teaching Guitar Workshops. The Grammy Foundation recognized Glen McCarthy as one of the top ten music educators in the United States in 2014.

Prof. Glenn Dewey,
Bass Adjunct Professor
Prof. Glenn Dewey has taught applied double bass (both classical and jazz) at Mason since 1994 as an adjunct professor and has also served as Producer of Mason Music Productions. Glen recently retired as bassist with “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band and Chamber Orchestra in Washington D.C. His fluency in many musical languages has provided him with a wealth of memorable experiences and opportunities. Congratulations to Prof. Dewey on his new full- time position as Assistant Prof. of Double Bass at Oklahoma State University, starting in the Fall of 2022.

Congratulations to Dr. Emily Green for receiving the George Mason University Teacher of Distinction Award at the Teaching Excellence Awards Ceremony on May 2nd. This prestigious University award celebrates Dr. Green's exceptional teaching and commitment to teaching-related activities.

Julie McDonald, currently a doctoral student, won a piccolo/C flute spot in the Professional Flute Choir for the National Flute Association's 2022 Convention taking place this summer in Chicago.
Eduardo Fajardo, currently an undergraduate student, was selected to perform for the Marina Piccinini International Masterclasses in this summer in Marlboro, Vermont.
