Dear Mason Music Family,

We are excited to announce our Dewberry School of Music Fall 2022 Concert Series featuring our extraordinary students and faculty.  We do hope you will join us for a spectacular season of great music! Our Fall Concert Series begins September 18th with a Grand Piano Celebration.

We were pleased to host a symposium: Performing Early Black American Music on June 23-24 on our Mason campus. This symposium for scholars, performers, and educators was part of a state-funded Virginia project led by Dr. Emily H. Green (George Mason University) with Dr. Michael Nickens (George Mason University), Dr. Bonnie Gordon (University of Virginia), and Dr. Mary Caton Lingold (Virginia Commonwealth University).

Our Mason campus has been humming with musical activity this summer as we host music camps for students of many ages. Last week we had a successful Jazz Camp led by our Mason jazz faculty. The Mason Community Arts Academy recently hosted Summer Music Intensive Weeks (woodwinds, brass and percussion) and Strings High School Music Institute led by our Mason music faculty.  How joyous it is to share this marvelous gift of music with teenagers and adults through these engaging summer music camps at Mason!

Beautiful music has been continuing throughout the month of June with concerts at Reston Town Square: Thursdays with the Arts at Mason. We were pleased to feature Woodwind Chamber Ensembles and our Faculty Brass Ensemble in this summer outdoor concert series.

Finally, we continue to grieve the passing of Reva Anne Dewberry on June 14. Beloved wife of Sid Dewberry for 72 years, Reva lived a life of service to others. Her legacy of kindness, graciousness, and generosity of spirit will live on through the many lives she has touched so deeply. (Read the full obituary as published in the Washington Post here.)

Our Mason Music Family extends our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to Mr. Sid Dewberry and family: son Barry Dewberry and wife Arlene Evans, daughter Karen (Dewberry) Grand Pre and husband Bruce, son Thomas Dewberry and wife Christine. We are praying for strength, peace, and comfort for Sid and his entire family during this time of profound loss.

May the music continue to inspire, uplift, and unite our community,
Dr. Linda A. Monson, Director
