We are thrilled to present our Mason Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday, October 12 at 8 pm.  This concert features Brahms monumental Symphony No. 1 under the direction of Dr. Soo Han, Director of Orchestral Studies, as well as exciting symphonic works by Revueltas and Coleridge-Taylor. 

The Mason Fall Choral Festival Concert on Saturday, October 15 at 4 pm highlights our University Chamber Singers and University Chorale, led by Dr. Lisa Billingham, Director of Choral Activities. This Choral Festival also showcases three guest choirs from Heritage High School, Loudoun County High School, and West Potomac High School. 

Our Faculty Artist Showcase Recital on Sunday, October 16 at 3 pm promises to be an incredible afternoon of music-making by our Dewberry School of Music faculty artists in voice, strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, and composition.

The Mason Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony concert on Monday, October 17 at 8 pm is under the baton of Dr. William L. Lake, Jr., Mason's new Director of Concert Bands.  The concert highlights works of Strauss, Holst, Bach, Brahms, Shostakovich, Grainger, and Kevin Day, as well as a composition by Mason alumnus Carl Holmquist. 

Directed by Prof. Jim Carroll, the Mason Jazz Ensemble concert on Wednesday, October 19 at 8 pm pays tribute to the big bands of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Thad Jones, and Rob McConnell.

We are pleased to announce our live, in person 12:30 pm Departmental Recitals which are free and open to the public.  Additionally, we are thrilled to announce that Student Degree Recitals will occur live on campus and also have a live stream viewing option (see calendar for complete listing).

The Mason Music Ambassadors, a prestigious group of student leaders, are selected by our faculty and administration for their stellar academic, performance, and service records. As outstanding representatives of our various performance and academic areas within our Dewberry School of Music, our Mason Music Ambassadors serve as student liaisons for our prospective and incoming music students. Using their strengths and talents, they build relationships with prospective students, helping each of them become contributing members to our Mason Music community.

Mark Evans, BA in Music with concentration in string pedagogy recently performed and was interviewed on "Virginia This Morning" on CBS news.

Mr. Evans is known as "Maestro the Cellist" on social media and performs original works that blend the elegance and beauty of the cello with different mainstream genres.

He teaches across the Northern Virginia and Washington D.C area with various Academies and Non-profit organizations.

Dr. Ed Knoeckel authored a new textbook on Film Music Appreciation titled Music in Motion Pictures: A Guide to the Art and Craft of Film Music. It is available as an affordable multimedia ebook for students in MUSI 301 course. 

Dr. Knoeckel took a year to gather, expand, and supplement content for the book and is thrilled that the first edition is complete. He will continue to work on expanding student resources for the textbook. 

Guitarist Dr. Shawn Purcell celebrates the release of his Origin Records debut, "180" featuring organist Pat Bianchi (Pat Martino/Lou Donaldson), drummer Jason Tiemann (Benny Golson, Ed Cherry), vocalist Darden Purcell and trombonist Ben Patterson. The CD release will be at Blues Alley (Washington, D.C.) on Monday, October 17.

"180" pays homage to the classic organ trio format while artfully integrating modern sonic colors, wordless vocals and guitar effects, with sophisticated melodies and harmonic twists and turns.
