Notes from the Director
Dr. Linda A. Monson
Dear Mason School of Music Family,

How thrilling it was to welcome our new Mason music students and welcome back our returning students at our School of Music Convocation this week! It was a special joy to introduce and welcome our four new full-time faculty members and one new full-time staff within our School of Music. We are particularly thrilled to welcome Prof. Joe Walsh as our newest full-time faculty hire.

Mason Music has been represented around the world through concerts and masterclasses in July of 2017!  Professor Patricia Miller and Dr. Kathryn Hearden were presenting Mason opera students in Italy.  I presented lecture-recitals, solo piano recitals, and masterclasses in Sydney, Australia; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Seoul, Korea in July and in Costa Rica in June. Additionally, Dr. Mira Yang, soprano and Dr. Dave Porter, tuba were presenting concerts in Sweden and Germany.

I invite each of you to join us for a very special Grand Piano Celebration concert on Sunday, September 17, 3 pm in Mason's Center for the Arts.  Not only will you experience thrilling music by our faculty and students, you will also have the opportunity to thank Sid and Reva Dewberry for their magnificent recent gift of scholarship support for our School of Music students. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the gift of music   and for your presence and support on September 17th in our Celebration concert.

Warmest regards,

Dr. Linda Apple Mo nson
