International Jazz Day

International Jazz Day (April 30th) is the culmination of Jazz Appreciation Month, which draws public attention to jazz and its extraordinary heritage throughout April. International Jazz Day is an International Day declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 2011 "to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe."

The George Mason University Winterguard has been crowned World Champions at the Winter Guard International Championships last weekend in Dayton, Ohio. Mason Winterguard earned a score of 99.00 - the 6th highest in WGI history! Congratulations to Doc Nix and the Green Machine Ensembles for this tremendous achievement!

Dr. Tom Owens (Associate Director, School of Music; Professor of Musicology) presented a paper on
Ives and the Ragtime Topic at the American Musicological Society—Capital Chapter meeting at Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. Read the abstract for his paper
