Dear Mason School of Music Family,
We are proud of our Mason School of Music vocalists who participated in the 2020 Virginia National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Vocal Competition last weekend. Mason singers soared in this prestigious vocal competition with 4 first place winners, 4 second place winners, 1 third place winner, and 9 students who were awarded honors! This is an incredible accomplishment for Mason's Vocal Studies area!
We hope you will join us for our extraordinary Faculty Artist Series, Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band Concert, Mason Symphony Orchestra Concert, fascinating lecture-recitals, and masterclasses as highlighted throughout this newsletter.
Thank you for your enthusiastic support of our marvelous School of Music students and faculty.
Warm regards,

On January 16-19, eight students from the GMU Music Technology program traveled to Anaheim, CA to attend the NAMM show, the annual global music products trade show. Riley Baisch, Mike Li, Yemar Marcano, Tia Maxfield, Brooke Nevius, Sonja Phillips-Thomas, Emily Stedman, and Ryan Urgel had the opportunity to attend professional development sessions, concerts, industry panels, networking sessions and visit more than 7,000 music products, pro-audio, and live event technology exhibits. For many students, attending the NAMM show is the first step in the door to a career in the music products industry.
In addition, Riley Baisch, Brooke Nevius, Sonja Phillips-Thomas, and Ryan Urgel were awarded the NAMM President’s Innovation Award which honors college students who demonstrate excellence in the field of music and who are interested in pursuing a career in the music industry. This award includes a scholarship that helps cover the cost of conference travel.
